Guest Stephen927
Last time I saw him play was for Lyon, quite a long time ago. He was very good in the air back then, wasn't a great player back then and I don't think he'll offer us much from now until the end of the season. A huge plus point would be that he has played with Beye and Faye, which would greatly help our defence due to the communication between them. For me, it depends on what type of wages he'll be looking at.

James
We should get him until the end of the season. A new body may help confidence, plus it will stop one of our rivals from getting him.

BONTEMPI
Wonder if he's impressed at all? I heard he was funnier than Terry Mac Nobody is funnier than Terry Mac. Was just a rumour doing the rounds! TM probably started it himself as he's such a joker! On a serious note though. Of all the players currently out of contract's, would there be anyone who could improve us going forward? As tbh that's the only option open to us if this lot don't buck their idea's up.

Skirge
http://www.thisisthenortheast.co.uk/display.var.2090258.0..php Spirit is key to survival By Paul Fraser WITH a vote of confidence ringing in his ears, Alan Smith last night moved to reassure nervy Newcastle United supporters that things are being done the right way on Tyneside. Smith failed to score for the 29th time in Magpies colours on Saturday, when Blackburn escaped from St James' Park with a victory after Kevin Keegan's men drew another blank. The outcome, according to reports, led to owner Mike Ashley asking for assurances from Keegan that Newcastle would be in the Premier League next season. advertisement But it is difficult to imagine that the frustrated boss was able to deliver such a positive response. The team have not won since Keegan took over from Sam Allardyce and just three points separate Newcastle from the relegation zone. With a trip to fourth-placed Liverpool pencilled in for this Saturday, before matches against relegation rivals Birmingham and Fulham, nerves are starting to jangle around St James' Park. In the dressing room, however, there remains defiance and a determination to turn things around. While question marks are being raised about Keegan's ability as a manager after a three-year absence from the game, the players he has at his disposal remain clear in their belief that he is the man for the job. "The more we work together, the more influence the manager is having," said Smith, who has started every game under Keegan. "We are getting fitter and there is a camaraderie and that's something the gaffer has emphasised since he came in. Everyone is playing for each other and that stands us in good stead. "It is a time where we have to stand up and be counted, go out in front of 52,000 people and prove our worth. We've got to show everyone that we want to fight for the cause." Despite Smith's failure to score for Newcastle, a drought which has done little to improve a record of three goals in 73 appearances since December 2004, he remains a favourite of Keegan. The £6m striker, who has spent much of the campaign playing in midfield, was defended by Keegan in the aftermath of Saturday's narrow defeat to Blackburn. The Newcastle manager praised the 'effort and endeavour' of Smith, admitting that his poor goalscoring record does not reflect well on a player whose work-rate is second to none. Newcastle, though, have failed to score two goals in any match since the 2-2 home draw with bottom club Derby on December 23 and it is the dearth of goals which has left fans crying out for more. There remains a doubt over the fitness of Aussie Mark Viduka, who was again missing from the match day squad on Saturday after struggles with his calf and groin. With Keegan unable to strengthen his squad the way he would like until the summer, Smith offers the experience required alongside Michael Owen up front. Andy Carroll and Shola Ameobi are the only alternatives. Keegan will make a decision on one possible addition today. Senegalese international Lamine Diatta will play in a training match this morning, before learning whether he will be offered a contract to stay in the North-East. The 32-year-old has been brought to the club on trial by the new scouting system, but Keegan is not yet entirely convinced he is worth a gamble. However, given that David Rozehnal departed for Lazio on loan in January, the centre-back would offer another option at the heart of the defence. Diatta paid up his contract at Turkish club Besiktas earlier this year and Keegan said: "We have to see how he does and we can sign him if we want him. But we will not be signing him unless it is a worthwhile exercise." There could also be another defensive option for Keegan to consider soon, with Peter Ramage expected back into training next week. Ramage has not figured since rupturing his cruciate knee ligament in the draw at Middlesbrough on August 28. He has remained involved on a match day with the squad, occasionally travelling to away fixtures, but hopes to be back on the training ground on Monday. Andy Carroll and Ben Tozer were both on the mark for Newcastle reserves in a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Everton at St James' Park last night. Defender Tozer recorded his first goal for the club since his move from Swindon, while Carroll made it six from five games when he netted a late brace. The former Robins centre-half rose to nod home James Troisi's cross in the 68th minute, although the effort did receive a helping hand by Toffees goalkeeper Iain Turner and his full-back Irving, to give United the lead before Carroll took advantage of Mark Doninger's industry six minutes from time to blast home. The striker then added his second when he rose to head Troisi's corner two minutes from the end. United's second XI have struggled to find the net in the last two league fixtures as a goalless draw at home to Liverpool and a 2-0 defeat at Wigan will testify - although they did net three times in a recent Northumberland Senior Cup tie against non league North Shields. But Newcastle created numerous clear cut chances during last night's clash with the Merseysiders to have won even more convincingly. Prior to the goals Doninger, Wesley Ngo Baheng, Jonathan Gosmark and Carroll all had opportunities, while at the other end goalkeeper Fraser Foster maintained his recent good form with another assured performance. Newcastle: Forster, Edgar, Tozer, Kadar, Lough, Godsmark, Troisi, Doninger, LuaLua, Carroll, Baheng (Zamblera, 60). Subs (not used): Soderberg, Donaldson, Francis, Marwood
