TRon
Surprising. These quick fix deals are usually binned after the trial deal is over. Hopefully he's getting a contract because we like what we've seen, not because we're desperate.
Fatwax
I don't see him being a world beater, not by any means, but he's played at a decent level at least, will know Beye, Faye and Cacapa and should hopefully slot in quite comfortably.

KaKa
Most African players are so well suited to the physical and frantic nature of the premiership so I'm not surprised. One thing we can be sure of is that he will have a good work rate and he should be strong and physical. Hopefully, he's got some pace too, although he is 32. I expect to see a player similar to Faye, Meite or Samba. That sort.

Skirge
http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/03/05/diatta-given-toon-chance-72703-20560427/ Diatta given Toon chance Mar 5 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle Lamine Diatta KEVIN KEEGAN is ready to add 32-year-old Senegal international defender Lamine Diatta to his Newcastle United squad on a free transfer. And the much-travelled defender, who is used to winning the French championship with Lyon, will be plunged straight into United’s relegation battle along with his Senegal colleagues Abdoulaye Faye and Habib Beye. Diatta has trained with United for the past week after being brought to Tyneside by the new scouting team led by Dennis Wise and Tony Jimenez. Keegan has given the green light for the signing and this will go through in the next 24 hours subject to the player passing his medical today. Keegan told me after Saturday’s defeat by Blackburn Rovers: “We have Monday and Tuesday to see how he does and we can sign him if we want him. “But we will not be signing him unless it is a worthwhile exercise.” The United boss obviously feels that Diatta is worth adding to his squad, even on a short-term contract. United were not releasing details of the length of Diatta’s deal until he passes his medical. But it looks as though he will be in the squad which leaves for Merseyside on Friday for Saturday’s game at Anfield. United have been able to sign Diatta because he bought himself out of his contract with Besikitas after he returned from duty with Senegal in the African Nations Cup in January. Since then both Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic have been linked with Diatta, who failed to break into English football in 2001 after a trial with Charlton Athletic. Diatta started his career with Toulouse in 1998 and has since played for Marseille, Rennes, Lyon and St Etienne before switching to Turkey in 2007. It was while he was with Lyon that he twice won the French title, in 2005 and 2006, the second occasion under Gerard Houllier. While at Lyon the player at his shoulder was none other than his new United colleague, Claudio Cacapa. And, like another of his new team-mates Habib Beye, Diatta is equally at home at right-back and in the centre of defence. Unlike Cacapa, he did not get on to the catwalk at Shay Given’s big charity fashion show at St James’ Park last night. But he was in good company in the audience along with top brass Mike Ashley, Dennis Wise, Tony Jimenez and Chris Mort, former skipper Alan Shearer and current captain Michael Owen. Keegan was on the catwalk but tonight he will be more interested in Saturday’s opponents Liverpool and how they fare against West Ham in the Premier League at Anfield. Northern Monkey
I hope to fuck no-one is going to give it the "He's a class act, seen him a gazillion times, just what we need" bollocks. Because enough peopel made that shite up with players in the past, even ones who clearly aren't up to it like Cacapa, and they looked like the lying, clueless cunts they are.
