Skirge
I am not to convinced, Barton did make a few good tackles but he did'nt run 20 yards to close down a player, most of the time he battled for the ball seemed to come after he had just been caught in possession and had to fight for it back. At City he would win the ball then drive out of midfield and have a 20 yard smash or look to play a neat through ball, or he would play it early from midfield then look to hold a run arrive late into the box. When we signed him most on here had him down as a much better footballer than Parker but with a worse temperament, I don't think he has shown he is better than Parker but has proved his temperament in a problem. Could we not look at playing him behind a front two in more of a Beardsley role ? James
With regards to Geremi's awful set pieces, it's been just as bad with Emre when he starts, or even Robert when he was with us. Any proffessional will tell you that as a game progresses, it is much more difficult to take a decent set piece due to either physical or mental fatigue. It can't really be said that Geremi or Emre are particularly fit, so that would probably explain why we become increasingly frustrated with the quality of set pieces as the match progresses. Guest alex
Given all you've just said, what makes you think he's got the creativity to play in the 'hole' behind the strikers? When he's playing well, one of his main strengths is his box-to-box ability. He's a central midfielder with attacking instincts but he hasn't got the ability to play in what is essentially a luxury / free role and it would curtail what strengths he does have imo. The only real thing he has shown now and then is he can still thread the odd ball through for the strikers, so play him closer to them and see if he can create a bit more. Playing him in a deeper midfield role at the min is a problem as he seems to be sluggish and is getting caught in possession a lot, he loses the ball higher up the pitch it gives us more of a chance to cover, he loses it infront of the back four are we are in trouble. I would prefer not to use him at all right now but with Emre injured we are short of options.

Skirge
Will Emre ever be fit? Whats his latest 'niggle'? Dunno, probably a calf injury again, its getting annoying now with Emre, one game every other month..

Yep, season almost over and Emre has made a whopping 8 starts and 9 sub appearances, easy money if you can get it. Viduka isnt much better with 13 & 7. Shearergol
Emre and Viduka should both be shipped out in Summer. Shouldn't be too hard to replace Emre either.
midds
Emre and Viduka should both be shipped out in Summer. Shouldn't be too hard to replace Emre either. Agree with all of that. Far too many little niggly injuries which seem to take an age to clear up only for them to twist/strain/pull a different part of their leg shortly after. Must be very frustrating for a manager. Baggio
Emre has been a complete waste of space since he arrived. Still the best centre mid we've got, far too injury prone to be considered as part of the clubs future though.
Skirge
Aye about the only player we have that is consistent at delivering a decent dead ball, but his injury record is shocking so he's gota go!!
gray
Aye about the only player we have that is consistent at delivering a decent dead ball Are you mental? 1 in 10 of his corners clear the first man, 1 in 10 of his fks clear the wall.

Well the Owen header against Everton, Beye header against what was it... Birmingham?, and the Cacapa header against Tottenham all came after a Emre corner/free-kick. + an own goal against Reading after an Emre free kick. How many goals have we scored from set-pieces that Geremi has taken?

Milner, Geremi , Duff and Zoggy hardly ever put in a decent corner or freekick, Zoggy's probably the best out of the four but Emre does put in a decent dead ball like, granted not all the time but more than the others do. Shak
It's not really about consistent, quality delivery though. Only a select few players in the world put in a really good ball more often than not. It's about having the ability to put in a near undefendable ball every so often that makes up for the poor ones. Robert was a prime example of this. The majority of his corners were piss, but you knew that eventually he was going to put one in that was nigh on undefendable and just asking to be nodded home. Emre is like that, to an extent. Yorkie
Cor, set piece delivery. That's definitely one thing we've lacked since Nobby disappeared. You can slate Geremi for it but Christ, is there any fucker else that can actually take a corner in our team? I wouldn't be against seeing Oba having a pop at it tbh; he's not a massive presence in the box from corners anyway, and he was capable of putting a decent ball in the box every so often when Allardyce stuck him on the wing. We're shite at it.
