madras Posted October 30, 2010 Share Posted October 30, 2010 I'm on the right about 5 yards away from cp40, greatday but plenty of bother after it, bricks thrown at us with coppers standing watching it happen I was right at the back that day and was one of the first out after the gates were kicked open, the mackems threw bricks at us and a few of us (probably 1 or 2 hundred) went after them and they legged it. there were scuffles all the way up that long street to the blue bell aswell. did you go the that pre season friendly ?, the road along the roker sea front looked like a big andy capp cartoon, a cloud of dust with legs and fists sticking out of it. I did go to the friendly and heard about the trouble on the sea front but we didn't go anywhere near it, we headed in that direction and got turned back, I think we got as far as a pub or club which wasn't that far from the ground. Were you in the Sunderland end or the Newcastle end? I was a bit surprised when I came around the back of the Fulwell and saw that we had a turnstile open only for Newcastle fans and the queue was massive. I was in the section right next to the Roker, the mackems in the next section to us were going mental at us. I was standing next to a bloke who had a young kid on his shoulders, the kid must have been no more than 4 or 5 years old but the bloke wanted him to go so that he could tell his own kids about it. Was in the Sunderland end as it was my mate who got the tickets - I think we were about half way between the Fulwell end and the center circle. Was funny watching the Newcastle fans who had tickets in the Sunderland fans stands work their way to the front, find a steward then unzip their jackets to show off the b/w shirts, lob a punch or two then hope that the stewards pulled them out before they got hauled back into the mob. Most made it but a couple didn't get close enough to the front rown and got worked over before they got spat out. Ahh, but what a great day that was. I didn't have a ticket; they let Newcastle fans pay on the gate. It was surreal having 3 sets of fans in the ground singing 3 different club songs. We had quite a few in the Roker also as they held up a massive Newcastle flag. Even the Gillingham fans were singing along with our songs. Superior Acuña Posted November 1, 2010 Share Posted November 1, 2010 As fantastic as yesterday was, the away wins always trump them for me. I've been to every derby since the home 96/97 one. My favourite memories are: 1-0 Dabizas After seeing us lose 2, and draw 3 with the mackems, I was so desperate to see us beat them, and could only dream what it would be like to do it to them, in a small pocket of toon fans. Plus it was an important game with us going for the CL. I was in the second row, straight behind the goal we scored in, and when Dabizas scored everything just went fucking mental. One of my fave moments in my life, never mind the derby. 4-1 Chopra, Shearer, Zog, Luque 1-0 down, them singing 'Shearer, what's the score', playing awful against a record-breaking bad team, them absolutely loving it. Then 2 minutes of such joy as Chopra scored, and Shearer got his penalty revenge. Never been so nervous as when Shearer stepped up, and I really think there couldnt have been a more perfect last goal for him. Zog shortly after meant I could enjoy the end, unlike the other nervy finishes, and as we know, Albert Luque wrapped it up. "SHEARER, WHAT'S THE SCORE?!" Jill Posted March 3, 2012 Share Posted March 3, 2012 With me with my head in my hands, slumped to my knees on hearing the crowd, in my Grandma's front room, Justin Lockwood's commentary of Kevin Kyle's injury time "equaliser" when we won 1-0 Solano (p) - "The ball's in the net, the sunderland fans all around me are celebrating but the flag is up! They think they've scored! You haven't! SIT DOWN!" Sure I've posted about this before but that was my one and only game in the home end at another stadium. It was dreadful really Got the tickets through medina (toontastic/rtg) and went with a friend and my mam's partner and his son (they were mackems). So pleased it was a pen as it was the only way we could prepare ourselves to not go mental. We both went into the same toilet cubicle at half time and jumped about like twats celebrating. We were outed when that 'equaliser' went in and we stayed completely still, thankfully so was a lad in the row in front who took most of the grief while my mam's partner quickly escorted us out. Never again though. Watched the 5-1 in Vegas at like half 6 in the morning with a mackem crying into the bar by half time who later turned out to be a poster on rtg Great day. Cajun Posted March 3, 2012 Share Posted March 3, 2012 Watched that 1-0 in Hexham, was seeing a lass from there at the time who was a mackem and went to the game so I had to stay in with her father (was going to get a ticket in the home end but one of their mates decided they wanted to go at the last minute). We listened to it on the radio and to be fair to him he was sound, I was wearing a Newcastle jumper during the game and he didn't say anything.
