Forlan will be 32 at the start of next season and would still command a large fee and Suarez is completely unproven in England although I had forgotten they had him before I said that. We've had Bale, Walcott, potentially Chamberlain go for big money from lower leagues to the Premier League, can't really think of many from Italy or Spain that are their equivalents? Basically Spurs have one chance of retaining their CL spot because they'll never oust Manu, Chelsea & Arsenal and have to fight it with Citeh, who'll put away each year and every year after. Then there is Liverpool who'll turn it around eventually. IF Spurs don't make the CL for next season they'll not see it again for a decade, 'arry knows this and is doing anything he can to bring in a worldclass striker to help fire him in to the 4th CL spot, but it looks like he's ran out of time. We've had Bale, Walcott, potentially Chamberlain go for big money from lower leagues to the Premier League, can't really think of many from Italy or Spain that are their equivalents? There has been lower-league players move to big clubs in Italy but often the lower league teams get a really raw deal. Most of them don't have the position of power both financially and in terms of reputation that a team like Southampton has. A release clause is - in fact - a penalty the footballer agrees to pay in case he tears up his contract.
