Chris Mort's future at Newcastle United is in doubt.

The Daily Mail says Newcastle will be hit by more boardroom upheaval during the summer with the expected resignation of chairman Mort.

He has alerted owner Mike Ashley that he wants to return full-time to his former employees, top London law firm Freshfields.

Even Mort wants to go back to London!

He was always meant to be an interim chairman.

Part of the reason for the '3 Headed Beast' we have now in terms of J,V&W is due to Mort not being 100% comfortable in some of the chairman activities - particularly in negotiations.

No great surprise, and when he does go I think he can hold his head up fo what has largely (although not 100%) a good job well done.

Has done a decent job in stabalising the back room and putting systems in place to take the club forward. He was never meant to be full time chairman and no doubt he will see his time on Tyneside as a great learning curve. Good luck to the man.

Completely expected.  I can just see the media headlines now though!

Just wondering who'll be put in place afterwards.. another one of Ashley's yes men or someone with experience/exposure in football?

Couldn't have done a whole lot more considering the circumstances to be fair.

Was told he might be on his way

It's not losing him thats important but replacing him with someone who has a decent understanding of the workings of the game - transfers etc.

We don't need another chairman who might cause us to miss out on transfer targets while he learns the ropes.

bring back Freddy. he's not afraid to back the manager financially. Mort is clearly scared to give Keegan any money.

Can we expect a raft of inside stories permeating the Freshfields chambers, and thus to the media? Because my strongest impression of Mort was that he is niave and inexperienced in the ways of football - it follows that said man might step out of the insane football world and think relating annecdotes over cigars and brandy harmless...?
