Coventry 2 - 3 Newcastle (CC) - 26/08/08 - post match reaction from page 36

Recommended Posts

Just got back due to turning back onto the motorway rather than off for my house

With a forward on the pitch the scoreline would have been embarrassing. We were unlucky not to score a couple more, and if we had the game would have been over at half time.

A few players still rusty, Beye included. I thought Bassong looked really comfortable and assured which is excellent. From that performance he would be pushing Taylor quite hard for a league starting place. Zog looked much happier in an attacking role, though Jonas did have an average game (based on huge expectations of course).

Was always going to be a tricky tie, just happy to be 'in the hat'.

Am I allowed to clarify that the only player I wasn't impressed with ability wise tonight was Butt?

Everyone else showed their ability, yet we failed to see a lower league side off over ninety minutes.

Some of our personnel seemed happy to contain the second half scoreline, rather than try to stretch the opponent when we had the ball.

That is why extra time was needed, because some of our players believed they could rely on ability alone to see them through the second half.

I hope you're excluding Geremi because he absolutely wank, lost the ball almost every time he got it.

i thought he was ok. your really exadurating how many times he lost the ball, he wasn't great though, and he did nowt impressive.

I'm sure I'm not? Don't want to make a big deal about it but he lost far too often :)

Given was superb when called upon. Having a great start to this season, and putting the doubters to bed.

unbeaten in 3, and if it remains this way after Arsenal, we will have had a great august with players still to come in hopefully.

We missed Taylor tonight in the air

They only won 2 headers all night.

We won a lot of free headers, but when challenged we werent as dominant

Have to agree with that. It was a weak challenge by Colo for their second goal and for all his faults Taylor would probably have made a better job of the situation.

Colo reads the game well and is classy on the deck, but if we can get a strong centre back I wouldn't mind seeing him pushed forward into Butt's position.

i also think owen hasn't lost as much pace as everyone is telling us he has.

I was impressed with a few little bursts of his, one where he beat a defender to a ball into the corner. Obviously won't outpace Evra and Clichy, but I think he still has more than enough to be going on with.

aye thats what made me post it. he looked very speedy there, i thought that he had no chance of getting there before the coventry player.

Geremi was a pile of shite tonight.Jonas is way ahead of the rest of the team sometimes its embarrassing.

Jonas is so mint. I think we all agree that Geremi is fine as a squad player, a useful sub but only that, we really need someone ahead of him. I'd much prefer him in the centre too, but only as 2nd choice.

This week is going to get interesting, fingers crossed we get new people in :D

his pass to milner for the 2nd was lovely, and his pass to milner for the first was brilliant imo, you can see he almost passes it, realises milner's offside, holds the pass till milner is on and then the pass itself is brilliantly weighted.

he ability to keep the ball and defensive contributions are what impressed me the most tonight though.
