This is going to end up in court. Each side is saying the other broke the contract and are digging their heels in.

And the only loser will be the club. Dragged through the fucking dirt yet again.  :dave:

if the quotes in the Sun are true, Keegan will have no option but to fight this, otherwise he'll owe the club £2m. shocking tbh.

Absolutely. :nods:

Both sides are calling the other liars. The statements tonight are just the opening shots. :(

i'm gutted at this as i'd just started putting it out of my head...

you'd think the least the club could do, in light of the tense atmosphere, was drop any PR or legal/financial battle against Keegan.

If NUFC are so big on developing young players with high re-sale value (and we discount Danny Guthrie), who are we talking about? Colo's 26 and already an established Argentinian international, Jonas is 25, Gonzalez is 26 and on loan, which leaves us with Bassong and Xisco. Hardly Arsenal-esque is it? I appreciate they're bringing academy players in but I really don't think academy players he didn't want would have been an issue for KK (unless he's seen Nile Ranger's Myspace and that's what kicked everything off).

Incidentally, the quote from this horrendous smear campaign - "Now where’s the resale value of any of those players?" hurts the club a lot more than it does KK.

yep, doesnt make us look especially ambitious. what happened to caring about how good the player was on the pitch and what they can bring to the club while they are here?

turns out for various reasons that Craig Bellamy and Laurent Robert had very litle resale value, but the impact they had on the club being a success on the pitch was massive.

Think of players as sports clothes brands or retail chains then the statement makes sense - that's the problem.

At the end of the day, I do think the Board have made a mistake here. Although I'm pretty sure they've been hard done by here, they're not going to win a PR battle with Keegan. He's too well established.

They couldn't win a PR battle with Fred West at the minute.

Afraid so. This is panning out in the worst way imaginable, as I feared:

One thing I'm sure of is this story will definitely NOT be concluded tomorrow. This one will run and run.

Exactly. I'm all for bringing in good young talent but you need a mix. How much re-sale did we get back from paying over a million (a lot at the time, especially for a newly promoted club) for a 32 year old Peter Beardsley?

As NJS says, they seem to want us to write off the next few seasons while these players develop. At £500 a pop Mike?

I think the club have shown themselves to be liars without the need for anyone to point it out by releasing a statement that completely contradicts what as individuals they've told the press and the official club magazine.

That's a good point but I think people will point to the fact Keegan not complaining implies it either wasn't happening or, if it was, he was ok with it because he kept schtum.  :undecided:

Explains a lot. Buy a renowned brand (Keegan) and stick it on something that has no resemblance to it.

When the cheap tat falls apart, you've already pocketed their hard-earned.

I know for a fact I am going to have loads of Birmingham and Villa fans come to me on Monday and question why KK thought he could sign Henry, Lampard, Beckham and Ronaldinho. They will believe all this shit.

Yep the average joe will believe it all, KK has thick skin though and will pull through it with his reputation intact.

More like tried to influence things or to get on with it until he couldn't stand for it any longer. What a mess we are right now, AGAIN!

and so a half baked smear campaign by the current regime begins

if this "club insider" reckoned that keegan was so "mad" and a laughing stock to the staff then why didnt they get rid and why didnt they let him go as soon as he walked out?

they are only fuellig the flames the idiots

They did let him go, Keegan just didn't want to come out and say he'd quit as he would owe the club £2 million.

£2million is nowt for a business the size of nufc compared to the lost revenue of losing the respect and future business of the majority of your customers

my point was if they were so desperate to get rid (of a raving lunatic in charge of the first team) then why didnt they?

The only players it seems that were forced on Keegan, were the two on deadline day...even then, Xisco has even said he met with Keegan who told him what the plans were. He walked the day after by the sounds of it. Could Keegan REALLY not have just calmed down, got on with it for a bit, and THEN went to Ashley or whoever with his concerns?

I've said the same about Keegan carrying on but I think what is happening now shows the club to be run by tossers, I wouldn't work for them.

So surely Keegan knew what the score was for quite a while then. If he felt that strongly against it, couldn't he have walked away from it earlier?

i'd guess it's because the situation didn't come to a head til the end of the window, and that up until then keegan thought he could work through it and still achieve the desired results. it's also possible that the personal situation soured, which the latest press releases from both sides suggest.

That's the thing though HTT. If he had put up with it upto that point, there's very little he could do anyway come September 2nd, he could have easily continued managing the squad.

To be fair to the LMA, the smear campaign is national, how many people outside of the supporters would pick up on the lies?

Statement in respect of further comments from Newcastle United F.C.

The directors of Newcastle United Football Club have late this evening issued a statement. The League Managers Association and Kevin Keegan made the following response.

Richard Bevan, LMA chief executive, said:

“Kevin Keegan’s chief complaint, amongst others, is that it was always agreed that the director of football could not impose a player that the manager did not want. This agreement has been broken and, notwithstanding the fact that the chairman at the time of Kevin Keegan’s appointment, the director of football and the owner of Newcastle United, have confirmed previously in public meetings and publications, that he would always have the final say.”

Kevin Keegan said:

“At the time at which I joined Newcastle United Football Club it was made very clear to me that I would have the final say on player movement in and out of the club.”

The following quotes are reproduced from published articles:

In the Evening Chronicle (Newcastle) on 1st February this year, Newcastle United’s executive director of football, Dennis Wise, said: “I am here to help Kevin as much as possible with bringing young players through and also recommending certain players to him. He will say yes or no. He has the final word. No-one else. I am not going to do things like bring players in behind his back. I am not into that. Everything that happens will be run past him and he will say yes or no.”

In an interview that appears in the September edition of the official Newcastle United magazine Mike Ashley said: "If the deal is right - and that means the right player who Kevin wants - then we will do that deal. Kevin himself is very particular about who he wants. To use his words, they have to have the right heart for Newcastle. That is massively important for him. If they don't then he's not interested."

For further information please contact:

Richard Bevan, LMA Chief Executive, 07860 474 767

It doesn't really matter what they've said in interviews, it's what is in his contract that he's signed that will matter in court which is where this is likely to go.

Doesn't that then discount all the stuff in the media that an 'insider' has said about Keegan, then?  If they've set a precedent for simply lying to the press, how can anything be believed?
