Guest sicko2ndbest
United have to up bid for Mbia Jan 17 2009 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle NEWCASTLE United will have to up their bid for Rennes midfielder Stephane Mbia or go back to the drawing board after their £5m offer was snubbed by the French side. Joe Kinnear claimed on Thursday that United had launched a £5m bid for the Cameroon midfielder, who is on Newcastle’s lengthy wanted list along with French League stars St Etienne striker Bafetimbi Gomis and Toulouse right-back Albin Ebondo. Kinnear had told the Chronicle on Thursday that United were doing their utmost to sign Mbia and Gomis. Yet Rennes have laughed off what they see as a paltry offer for Mbia – who Everton and Arsenal were quoted a fee of over £10m for last season – and Kinnear’s hopes of landing Gomis also look slim. Rennes general manager Pierre Dreossi said: “There will be no signings, departures or loans.” And a source close to the player said: “Stephane has had an injury this season and has only just come back into the team, but Rennes are reluctant to let him go. “I think it would take a much bigger offer from Newcastle before they even think about letting him leave, as he’s one of their best players.” Meanwhile, an insider at St Etienne said of Gomis: “Newcastle came here to look at Bafetimbi last season when Dennis Wise scouted the player himself. “He is keen to play in the Premier League at some stage, but maybe now isn’t the time. “Bafetimbi knows himself he hasn’t played as well this season, but even so he is a player who St Etienne wouldn’t let go unless it was an offer they couldn’t refuse.” United have completed the deal for 18-year-old Caio Ferreira on a three-year contract after the move was pushed through red tape. A move for 16-year-old midfielder Haris Vukic from Slovenian First Division side NK Domzale has also been agreed, with the teenager signing a three-and-a-half year deal, according to Domzale’s official website. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2009/01/17/united-have-to-up-bid-for-mbia-72703-22714516/

Pilko
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11719_4805716,00.html Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster could be set for a loan move away from St James' Park before the close of the transfer window, skysports.com understands. The highly-rated custodian is believed to have attracted the interest of a host of clubs after a successful spell at Stockport earlier this season. The 20-year-old spent a month at Edgeley Park in October and he enhanced his growing reputation with a series of impressive displays as he kept three clean sheets in six games. With Tim Krul returning to Newcastle from a loan spell at Carlisle this weekend, Magpies boss Joe Kinnear will have a full complement of goalkeepers at his disposal, and he is considering loaning out Forster. Forster is tipped as a future replacement for Shay Given at Newcastle and Kinnear is happy to loan him out so that he continue his development and gain some valuable first-team experience. Stockport are believed to be keeping tabs on Forster's situation as doubts continue to surround the future of current keeper Owain Fon Williams. Several other League One and Championship sides are also tracking Forster and Newcastle will look at the options available before deciding where to send the giant keeper on loan. Totally agree how come we cannot go for a player like him but risk it on a import with probably no experience in england which is more than likely is going to be the case. Dokko
He's better than what we've got. You are banging on about crossing, but for fuk sake, you seen the crosses we produce ATM? Shocking and useless is an understatement. Pennant would be no worse, in fact i think he's a lot better than Duff & Zoggy at crossing, and if Zoggy is off, Jonas on his natural left and Pennant on the right is great balance for me. LooneyToonArmy
SK Brann winger Erik Huseklepp has denied reports linking him with a move to Newcastle. The St James' Park outfit are seeking reinforcements as they bid to beat the Premier League drop. But the 24-year-old Norwegian footballer denies any knowledge of being one of Joe Kinnear's potential recruits. "I haven't heard anything about Newcastle being interested," he told VG. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11678_4806040,00.html

Guest Alan Shearer 9
Pennant's crossing is one of his strengths tbh, he can produce a good variety of crosses. His weaknesses are in other areas
