Seems strange, why cut his options. The whole point in him staying until the end of the season was to assess his options.

 

Pretty sad if its true, when we could have cashed in on him now. I'd much rather that happened than get nothing for him in the summer.

The whole situation is such a mess. Whether it's Man City or not, it certainly looks like he's looking for a move in the summer. In which case, is he really going to be risking injury by giving 100% in the last half of the season? There's bound to be doubts in people's minds, including his team mates.

 

It makes me doubly angry because the club is only getting what it deserves. We were wrong in manipulating him into signing in the first place when he'd clearly stated his reluctance, and we should have sold him at the start of the season once it became clear he didn't want to commit to a new contract. Instead we made him the captain. You couldn't write it.

Owen has gone four games without a goal but still boasts a return of nine goals from 14 matches this term for struggling Newcastle who face West Ham today before hosting Hull in their FA Cup replay next Wednesday.

 

He added: These are the important games, especially at home. We need to make them count. We need three points. It's a big week for us with the FA Cup replay coming up.

 

"Two wins would be lovely. We'd be right up there bordering on mid-table and through to the next round of the Cup with a home tie to look forward to.

 

"I had a couple of chances at Hull, one good and two half chances, I would normally expect to stick one of three away but it was not to be. Thankfully, we kept a clean sheet.

 

"Now it's West Ham at home and hopefully we can create a few chances and I am always confident of sticking the ball in the back of the net."

 

Owen is widely expected to leave Newcastle this summer after snubbing a contract offer and is grateful for the support the club's fans have shown him despite his delaying a final decision.

Owen's taking a bit of a gamble by leaving the decision to the end of the season. If he were to suffer another serious injury, I don't think we'd offer him a new deal and any club that was looking to do a deal would be a bit wary about it.

 

Could create a conflict of interest for him. Does he go for that 50-50 ball, or let it go incase he suffers a bad knock?

 

Saying that, Michael Owen is extremely important for this football club right now. Hope he gets back into goal scoring form like we saw earlier in the season.
