toontownman
Seems strange, why cut his options. The whole point in him staying until the end of the season was to assess his options. Pretty sad if its true, when we could have cashed in on him now. I'd much rather that happened than get nothing for him in the summer.
Guest VegasToon
Doubt its true. If Man City really wanted him they would bid for him now. Why wait? I thought money was no object to them.
Thespence
Michael has said/wrote he has shown his commitment to Newcastle United by NOT signing a contract & staying till the summer what more can he do? His preferred club of choice is Cheltenham as Kempton don't have a pro team.
Cronky
The whole situation is such a mess. Whether it's Man City or not, it certainly looks like he's looking for a move in the summer. In which case, is he really going to be risking injury by giving 100% in the last half of the season? There's bound to be doubts in people's minds, including his team mates. It makes me doubly angry because the club is only getting what it deserves. We were wrong in manipulating him into signing in the first place when he'd clearly stated his reluctance, and we should have sold him at the start of the season once it became clear he didn't want to commit to a new contract. Instead we made him the captain. You couldn't write it.
Thespence
Michael Owen has defended himself following Jose Mourinho's claim that the Newcastle United captain "is no longer the Owen we all knew". Michael Owen has defended himself following Jose Mourinho's claim that the Newcastle United captain "is no longer the Owen we all knew". Owen, 29, hit back after the Inter Milan manager refuted reports he was interested in taking the striker to the San Siro because of the injuries that have blighted his time on Tyneside and curbed his penalty area prowess. "You can look at stats whichever way you want but in general I have had a good year really in terms of games and goals," Owen said. "I have only missed four in the last calendar year. Considering what is said about me, it can paint a false picture. Just to miss four games in a year is good and my goal ratio is good too, it has been a good year from that point of view." Owen has gone four games without a goal but still boasts a return of nine goals from 14 matches this term for struggling Newcastle who face West Ham today before hosting Hull in their FA Cup replay next Wednesday. He added: These are the important games, especially at home. We need to make them count. We need three points. It's a big week for us with the FA Cup replay coming up. "Two wins would be lovely. We'd be right up there bordering on mid-table and through to the next round of the Cup with a home tie to look forward to. "I had a couple of chances at Hull, one good and two half chances, I would normally expect to stick one of three away but it was not to be. Thankfully, we kept a clean sheet. "Now it's West Ham at home and hopefully we can create a few chances and I am always confident of sticking the ball in the back of the net." Owen is widely expected to leave Newcastle this summer after snubbing a contract offer and is grateful for the support the club's fans have shown him despite his delaying a final decision. "I appreciate reception I have had from fans," Owen added. "They are a big part of this club, more so than any other and all the lads are indebted to them for showing their support, but me more than anyone, right from the start when I first signed. "Despite some troubled times, it has been good since. It's fantastic to get their backing, I think they realise I have not said I want to go, I will fight for the cause, just like I did last season when a bit of a battle at the bottom." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/newcastle/4210123/Newcastles-Michael-Owen-rubbishes-Jose-Mourinho-claims.html

Why do I find this annoying and patronising. Smells of "praise the fans and they'll fall for it" - let's face it he's not botheed about us, or the club, or whatever club he plays for. I get the increasing impression he's playing for a) his England place (waste of time Mikey) and b) get funds for more horses. Rent a quote tbh. His preferred club of choice is Cheltenham as Kempton don't have a pro team. Been leaked that the reason he did that was he has a "gentlemans agreement to join Man City in Summer" - on Sky Sports News this morning. Apparently being a gentleman doesn't apply to his attitude towards NUFC.... Good striker, selfish tw*t.
Guest
These quotes are taken directly from the interview on World, and tbh, he seems very genuine in that sense. Why the hell would anyone believe actual quotes from Michael Owen above newspaper rumours? Get a grip man.

TRon
I don't pay a lot of attention to what Owen says tbh. He'll be going in the summer whatever he says or doesn't say. In the meantime if he scores a few goals for us great.

At least he hasn't done what other players have and openly come out and said he wants to leave, especially at a time when we need everyone pulling in the same direction. LooneyToonArmy
Owen could be next to Villa MARTIN O’NEILL has Emile Heskey in the bag — and Michael Owen as a possible summer target. The Aston Villa boss last night snapped up £3.5million striker Heskey, 31, on a 3½-year deal from Wigan. O’Neill then refused to rule out a move for hitman Owen, whose Newcastle contract runs out at the end of the season. That throws up the intriguing prospect of the ex-Liverpool pair renewing the partnership which brought them success at Anfield and with England. O’Neill said: “I’m not saying that I will move for Owen in the summer — I’ve not looked at anything at that remote a distance. “But that’s not to say Michael Owen is not a terrific player. We wait to see. Anything is possible. Kaka is a possibility! “We want to try to compete at this level but what’s happening in the future? I have no idea.” Owen, 29, earns £110,000 a week on Tyneside and wants £150,000 a week from his next deal when he will be a free agent. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article2166603.ece?OTC-RSS&ATTR=Football
Thespence
As the number people paying for season tickets will drop dramatically next season because the team is shite & the crunch, we need to let Michael Owen go as he absorbs to many £££'s. Shame as I like him.

I doubt that to be honest. I think he'll go to Aston Villa or Man City for a huge pay cut but better chances of playing in Europe and winning something. mrmojorisin75
i'm really gonna enjoy hating owen for the rest of my life after he leaves, probably not fair as no rational human being of his footballing ability would want to stay with us now but if EVER a footballer owed a club anything he is high up the list the little shit hope he cuts his fucking wrists on a gillette advert, or his timex watch explodes into his eye, or chokes on a drink of lucozade the rich, money grabbing little cunt

Guest toonlass
We should say to O'Neill, name your price for Owen now. Seems stupid to let him stay until the summer when he can walk away for nowt when we could get something for him if we sold him now.

Guest Stephen927
Owen's taking a bit of a gamble by leaving the decision to the end of the season. If he were to suffer another serious injury, I don't think we'd offer him a new deal and any club that was looking to do a deal would be a bit wary about it. Could create a conflict of interest for him. Does he go for that 50-50 ball, or let it go incase he suffers a bad knock? Saying that, Michael Owen is extremely important for this football club right now. Hope he gets back into goal scoring form like we saw earlier in the season. Yup, if we had sold him on at the start of the transfer window we could have moved for a replacement. Owen's taking a bit of a gamble by leaving the decision to the end of the season. Saying that, Michael Owen is extremely important for this football club right now. Hope he gets back into goal scoring form like we saw earlier in the season. The thing is, if he gets an injury and no-one comes in for him because of it, the contract we have is on the table, so he can sign it. If he doesn't get injured then he knows that Aston Villa and probably Tottenham will come in for him in the summer and it will cost them nowt in transfer fees freeing up the cash for his wages. Its a win-win for Owen and a no-win for Newcastle. Last thing we need is Owen signing on again if he gets injured. One thing for sure though, if he is injury free then he will be off in the summer.
