Villa massacred our Under 18s in the Youth Cup. 0-4 at Whitley Park. Shows how far we still have to go to get an academy that is up there with the better ones.

Just checked that Villa u18 are league leader of South & ours are at lower half of Northern table.

Has there a nation wide league, we would have been in 2nd division.

My opinion is football at academy level can't be judged around result & league standings.

There's no guarantee that 10 yrs later the Villa squad from today will have more professionals than ours.

This ☝️ think of your own mates you played football at school with at 16/17 and how many you bumped into two or three years later and were suddenly massive. Physicality plays a big part in competitive sport and knowing how someone is going to physically develop at a young age will always include an element of guesswork. IMO Academy football shouldn’t be primarily about results, but be about teaching technique, skills, tactics and patterns of play.

NUFC has announced a policy in recent months, where we play younger players to help 'advance' them by playing against older kids e.g. 15 / 16yr olds will play for U18s and 17 / 18yr olds will play for the U23s

Not worried about the academy. Looks to be in good hands.

That U21 manager, Diarmuid O’Carroll, looks to have been a good hire.

Jack Brazil seems a good lad too, in charge of the U16s.

It came as more of a surprise that we haven't done this for years already, than the fact they've announced what all other clubs that run their youth academies at least semi-professional has been doing for eons 🤷🏼‍♂️ Even my local side, now a third tier team in the Norwegian league system, has done this since before I can remember - it's just basic logic when it comes to developing the most talented young players in your academy  What the actual flying fuck have we been up to? At least this explains why we've not seen a youth player step up into our starting eleven in decades... :(

Middlesbrough have lost on penalties, so as it stands Newcastle win the group on goal difference, a goal for Gateshead though and I think they drop out of the top 2 qualifying places.

Where is Ben Parkinson btw? Injured? Seemed to have a good start to the season, but hasn't played in a while.

He’s played on the right wing a fair bit too, looks decent.

Just read on .com that we've appointed Robbie Stockdale to assist O'Carroll with the U23 side. I thought he came across really well when he was on the Sunderland documentary a few years ago, seemed a good guy. Hopefully another decent appointment.

Newcastle United have added Theo Benjamin to their youth ranks following an impressive trial period, with Charlton talent Lesecond Yeutembip also sealing a move to the North East.

Theo is the son of former Leicester, Brighton and Crystal Palace forward Trevor Benjamin and has signed a two-year deal on Tyneside, becoming the latest addition to our U15s alongside Yeutembip; who previously captained youth side Barking & Dagenham.

Yeutembip is a 14-year-old centre-back who comes from Charlton’s highly-regarded Academy. The rangy defender has traveled with the U15s to Japan this week and featured in a defeat to a J-League youth side in Tokyo today.

Yeutembip played for England Under-15 against Turkey today.

I still don’t understand why the club don’t have a dedicated social media account for the academy. Tweeting it off main is not the updates I want.
