mrmojorisin75
Shearer is repeating the previous managers mistake of playing Owen in hopes he nicks a goal regardless of his form or team formation. The lad has scored two (2) away goals all season. The team is playing so awfully that there would be better chance of nicking a goal with two or three big forwards battling for every long ball pumped out of the defence. Steven Taylor would probably do a better job up front in this situation than what Owen does. The team needs some inspirational play upfront. Seeing Owen jogging around and making couple sprints in hopes of receiving inch-perfect pass isn't inspirational and "luxury" that the team can't afford. Put a big, ugly, in-your-face forward there to bruise people and the match dynamics start to change. This lets-hope-Owen-nicks-a-goal is b*****t that's got to stop. the alternative to playing owen please? given we've no midfield worth a turd 4-4-2 with wingers that either can't cross or take people on as far as i can see Given how shite the team is in terms of keeping possession and playing it around I'd like to see us switch to the Bolton and Stoke tactics rather than trying to play a game that we don't have players or time for. Carroll/Viduka/Ameobi up front and just keep pumping as many long balls, crosses and long throws as possible and that way put them under pressure and generate at least some chances. That tactic has to pay off more than keeping Owen there and hope he'd get that one perfect chance and put it away. Put the four hard-tacklers Butt, Smith, Jonas and Barton in midfield and we'd have fair chances of winning the 50-50 balls. . i can't agree those systems work with players who are used to it and geared for it, ours are not having seen martins and viduka in the last 30 yesterday i honestly think that finishing team (minus duff & butt) is the one we should play...viduka seems to thrive on playing with martins and if they're causing havoc then i would personally back owen to exploit the space we have to play this at home, jesus, 'boro & pompey will be having wet dreams about us hoying balls up in the air at them rather than trying to play long ball has done nothing for us all season, why would it work now? Pumping long balls towards midget strikers isn't a good idea, but if we put in a couple of big strikers with midfielders willing to make supporting runs I can see what bsl is getting at. But our best bet is to try and replicate last season's 4-3-3 with Martins and Viduka playing a role I agree. We must ditch the cloggers in midfield for it to work though. Dave
That Owen stats is appalling. I don't care how shit the service has been, two goals away from home all season is absolutely desperate stuff for any striker.

junkhead
even if we do what do we have to look forward to? Kinear as manager, hughton as assistant, players that are'nt good enough(owen, duff, butt, raylor) and an owner that just does'nt seem to be able to get decisions right. that's what I'm thinking.. I'd rather shoot myself than witness another season like this one.. I know relegation would be a disaster for the club and the city and all that.. I can't help but feel we need to go through this in order to filter the crap in the team.. And let's name them once again - Nicky Butt, Michael Owen, Damien Duff, Alan Smith, Mark Viduka, Kevin Nolan, Ryan fucking Taylor, Shola Ameobi.. The so-called professional, vastly experienced nucleus of the squad which is directly responsible for where we are now. .. That group must have 5 good games this season between them and yet the few managers that we have still consider them somewhat important to our survival 'fight'? Fuck that shit man.. those wankers must all be shown the door after this season. They've taken the piss out of the fans for far too long. I can't believe some of them even have the audacity to fuck around in clubs in the city.. if this was Italy or even fucking Bulgaria, legs would've been broken a long time ago and that's what such disgraceful mercenary cunts deserve
Guest Phil K
There are too many sulkers and non-triers in the squad. Overpaid prima-donnas too I say tell Big Al to get his shirt on and play - he's got more go and guts, possibly even fitter than 90% of the team He's got more heart and backbone than ALL of them
Tisd09
With the disallowed goal I can fully understand why that would have been dissallowed but if Oba did that in his own penalty area and cleared the ball away do you think a pen would have been given, I think not, so on that basis the goal should have stood. Where are the straws gone lads I am running out..
eaststar
My rant is as follows: Was Nolan even on the field? I did not see him do ONE thing positive. Nicky Butt, piss off. seriously. piss off. waste of space. and I hate how commentators rave on abouy him. The worst is when he puts in a crap pass (which is 99% of the time) and they say "that's is so uncharactheristic of such a quality player". piss off. Where was guthrie? Guthrie is such a better passer of the ball than the above clowns. The commentators pissed me off. Totally pro-spurs...and having the cheek to tell Shearer "you don't know what you are doing" totally pissed me off. Condescending, patronising, smug toads. owen. yes he did nothing - but he could do nothing without any quality in midfield. Ryan Taylor. Saw nothing of his so called "dead ball specialist" skills. COME ON LADS
Skirge
The only reason we had a decent'ish end to the game was the exact same reason we had a decent'ish end to the Stoke game, both of them had a 1-0 lead and sat back in the latter stages. The changes halped as they did vs Stoke but thats two games now where Al has started the wrong 11, he HAS to get it right for next Monday.
Jayson
Al did cock up the formation though, cant take all blame away from Shearer. It was clear from the get go, anytime we pressured them they just knocked it over to the other side and carried on. Thats why lennon kept getting on the ball, we couldnt do anything. He sould have switched to 4 in the middle as soon as they started exploiting that weakness......he didnt. Obviously hes learning still...so i dont judge him harshly for it. We just need him to be learning a whole lot quicker than he is.

TaylorJ_01
What a poor performance. Firstly, it was clear that a player with even an ounce of quality upfront is a must. Unfortunately Viduka looks to be the only one. He seems to link up well with Martins and could surely exploit the occassionaly decent runs that Owen makes. We also need someone who can deliver a ball. It was embarrassing that Ryan Taylor couldn't get it past the first man. Ruins the chance and offers a counter attack opportunity for the other team. Fucking disgraceful. Even Duff's delivery was better than his. Despite Geremi being pretty poor sometimes he is worth a shout even just for this, plus I don't think he is half as bad as people make out. Butt was pretty terrible today. I respect him for his work rate but the passing is terrible. Luckily our defence doesn't seem to be too bad nowadays. Bassong, Taylor, Beye and Enrique are all quality players so I suppose it lets us focus on the shite elsewhere in the team. I'd go for this Harper Beye Taylor Bassong (Enrique) (Barton)/Guthrie Jonas (Lovenkrands)/Duff Owen Martins Viduka Players in brackets I would play if fit. I think our defence is strong enough now to withstand the extra strain from only a 3 man midfield (to be honest the usual midfield puts them in more trouble). It may be a bit too attacking but fuck it if we don't score we can't ever get three points.
Guest toonlass
Harper 5 Beye 7 S. Taylor 5 (Smith 6) Bassong 7 R. Taylor 2 Nolan 2 (Viduka 6) Butt 2 Jonas 5 Duff 5 Owen 3 Carroll 5 (Martins 7) As good as down, no chance we will win all 3 home games, i think we'll win one (boro), lose one (fulham) and draw the other (pompy). We will get hammered at anfield and might even grab a draw at villa but it will be all over by that game anyway. How can you give Bassong a 7 for that performance. He gifted the ball to Darren Bent for the goal man. What did Carroll get a 5 for? He was ineffective. Mental scoring tbh.

Beye's getting on a bit now and really struggled to keep up with Spurs quick playing at times. Much more suited to his normal RB position.
junkhead
There is a few players holding things together, if you can even say it that way, Beye, Jonas and Bassong. those three and Martins are our only top quality players.. I respect them because they continue to give their all.. Owen, Butt, Duff etc have given up a long time ago and shouldn't be anywhere the first team at this stage.. if Shearer doesn't drop them we're down without even fighting.
