steve_69
Stewart Downing for me. Cole has looked a shadow of his former self for Chelsea. Shame really, for a while he looked like the answer to our left-side problems
Ronaldo
Cole was the best player on the pitch during the first half of saturday's game. He's a fantastic footballer who shouldn't be overlooked.

Agree entirely. If it's a choice between him and Downing and both are fit and playing for their clubs then there's not even a choice to be made. People are quick to forget. Flip
23 man squad. My pick would be: Rob Green Joe Hart Ashley Cole/Stephen Warnock if Cole's not fit Leighton Baines Wes Brown Mich Richards John Terry Rio Upson Lescott Carrick Gerrard Lampard Barry Joe Cole Stewart Downing James Milner Wright Philips Aaron Lennon Carlton Cole Peter Crouch Wayne Rooney Jermain Defoe Either Downing or J.Cole has to go for an extra goalkeeper. The rest I agree with you.
Pilko
Oh and I still wouldn't take Crouch to South Africa. Then you're clearly fucking mental.
ponsaelius
You HAVE to have 3 keepers. The regulations are the 23 must be made of 20 outfield + 3 keeprs.

Guest kingdawson
James Green Hart Johnson Richards A.cole Baines Terry Ferdinand Lescott Upson (just) Gerrard Lampard Carrick Barry Lennon SWP J.cole Beckham (close.....Downing and Milner still in with a shout) Rooney Crouch Defoe Heskey
Mowen
I'd have Brown over Richard, much better defensively. I reckon Milner's ahead of Beckham now too...other than that it looks alright to me.

Mowen
In an ideal world Hargreaves would be ahead of Carrick there, he just won't be fit though. I'd still start the team we had throughout qualification fwiw.
Village Idiot
You lack a bit of bite in the midfield to play some of the stronger sides, in my opinion. Pity about Hargreaves being such a crook (or not, since I'm Spanish )

I'd still start the team we had throughout qualification fwiw. Carrick is straight beast playing the dm role. Hargreaves imo isn't clever enough playing that role as well as Carrick can. I do however think Hargreaves would suit the cm role ahead of Lampard if we played that formation. I don't think Capello would ever try this formation though so i agree that we should start the team that started during qualifications.
Ronaldo
Carrick is easily our best CM behind Lampard and Gerrard.

ponsaelius
Honestly don't see the fuss with Barry. Decent passing range but all round a very limited player imo.

Ronaldo
Carrick was the best player on the pitch on sunday for me, don't see where Messi is coming from. Probably his agenda against english players not named Beckham.
johnnypd
carrick's looked excellent when i've seen him recently. for instance vs man city or milan. the one thing that i'd say barry has over him is that he plays more simple passes and keeps the ball moving. carrick is more likely to slow down, put his foot on the ball and look for the ambitious pass. both types of player have their uses but in international football barry might be a bit more useful when we're up against sides that play possession football. Probably his agenda against english players not named Beckham. Valencia was the best player on the pitch by a mile man. Carrick was having great difficulty beating the first man from every set piece and finding a simple pass. Him and Fletcher were awful in the middle.
