Sir Bobby Robson (1933–2009)

It's a statue ffs, it's impossible to be a complete replica of the subject. Looks fine IMO, everyone knows who it is. Take a look at that Southampton one if you want to see a shite statue.

Eh. What does 'it's a statue ffs' even mean?

It fails, in my humble opinion of course, to either impress technically or convey any feeling for the man himself, and a statue should have at least one of those attributes. Instead the sculptors limitations distract from the peice to the point that it makes people annoyed that this is what we have to imortlise Bobby. I think he deserved a damn sight better.

As POOT said, art is subjective, so fair enough if people like it, great. But for me it's depressingly closer to your Southhampton or mackum statues than our Milburn or his Ipswitch efforts.

Sums him up very well imo, this nails it for me.

I like the hands in pockets and foot on the ball too... it's calm, authoritative and he looks like he's really comfortable with his experience etc.

 Whey, when I said 'closer', it was a fairly big scale.

It's also 9ft tall, I'm sure he wasn't 9ft tall. They got that wrong too? Sheesh.

Who cares man? Seriously. We all know who it is, it looks like him, it stands like him. It's not like the statue has got one leg longer than the other and has blonde curly hair - it's Sir Bobby, and he's perfectly placed back where he belongs, where his love for football began.

Let's just celebrate his life, instead of nitpicking to fuck like we always do.

For me the face lacks real likeness and his right leg looks like its dislocated at the hip, but overall the sentiment overrides any minor details.

Its not horrific by any means, just not perfect, which it could have quite easily been.

It could have "quite easily been perfect"? You mean in an alternate reality or something?

What? Is that where you are from?

I just don't get how it "could quite easily have been perfect". Since when was it easy to make things perfect? Whatever it looked like there would be some people who didn't like it.

Wasn't it the same guy who did the bust? Which is a much better likeness.

Tbh Ian you don't 'get' a lot of things, if I were you i'd just stop trying and let it go.

I wish people would stop making such stupid points, but you can't have it all.

I've just been to see it and was slightly disappointed like. It's a great sentiment and not exactly bad, but I thought the face was a bit off and that it looks a bit cartoon-ish.
