SUPERTOON Posted April 10, 2011 Share Posted April 10, 2011 Being our player of the season has nothing to do with today's game, no one is disputing he has been brilliant for us this season.. he is being judged on today's performance and it was shocking. Pardew made him Captain expecting him to lead by example and keep us focused but instead he used the Captaincy as an excuse to fkn cry on and on at the ref instead on just concentrating on his job as a footballer. Imagine how infuriating it would be when you're playing out of your skin but still being overlooked for England by people who constantly churn up shit like Carrick and Barry. He was rightly putting out a case for himself. Just because he had 1 bad performance on the back of this means fuck all. He's not superhuman, he's allowed to have off days. How about we focus on the actual dross that needs shipped out like the 2 Taylor's, Guthrie, Lovenkrands instead of hanging Barton out to dry because of one match. who is hanging him out to dry? he's set himself up for a fall. How? by making stupid comments in the press. once those comments come out in public he should know that the level of scrutiny and pressure on him only amplifies, and also that there'll be other players out to get him. today he was utter shite and let the pressure and stick get to him. spent more time being pissed about being called a shit gareth barry and getting into slagging matches with the ref and other players than concentrating on trying to play well. fucking hell, can't people on here distinguise between criticism where it is warranted and having a vendetta against someone? if someone plays badly, no matter who it is, enrique, tiote, ben arfa or barton, then the performance will get criticised, especially if like Barton, and Dyer before him, have comments released in the press bigging themselves up. but it goes no further than that - criticism of one match or mistake. It's particularly notable he was so poor today because he had a lot of responsibility not only as captain but also as one of the few 1st choice players playing in his 1st choice position. And he responded with a terrible, terrible performance. That is all just plain fact. I would suggest there are plenty of criticisms in the Tiote thread when he's been poor. No cause he would have actually been focused on playing the game. Barton was trying to prove he wasn't a 'shit Gareth Barry'. The crowd got to him, as did the ref. That wasn't his greatest game in the season but some of the comments are a bit harsh in my season. He was average today in a very average performance. Interestingly I thought he came into the game more when he played more centrally. Agree that with whoever said he probably shouldn't be captain, he doesn't seem to have the temperament to get his point across in the right manner. Didn't he say in an interview or talk in that nolan can read him like a book and steps in when he can see joey is thinking about speaking up?
