By the way. I live in London, but I've heard enough s**** spouted from various southerners (the vast majority of people who give me their opinions talk about The Sun as a 'newspaper') to make a judgement.

So I'm making it.

Here it is. Most northerners generally talk intelligently about football.

Most southerners that I've met generally repeat verbatim what they've read in the 'newspaper'. i.e. s****.

I like it

No-one except you mentioned 'Cockney Maffia'.

A few facts...

The owner is from the south-east.

His MD is also from the south-east.

His manager is from the south-east.

Brian Clough was from the north-east.

Bob Paisley was from the north-east.

Bobby Robson was from the north-east

Is anyone else starting to see a pattern emerge...

Chris Hughton is from London, he ok ?

That chip on your shoulder is getting more and more massive by the second, are you really so pathetic that you dislike someone for where they are from, not that they have any say in where they were born.

From .com:

Tuesday's newspapers attempted to cast further light on the decision by United to make Joey Barton available on a free transfer, alluding to various examples of unacceptable behaviour in addition to his Twitter outbursts.

Tales of dressing room disharmony (which Barton himself had hinted at) seem to centre on his actual and perceived capability for causing squad unrest and with it an implicit assumption that removing him would solve our problems.

However the sound of barrel scraping was almost audible when the Chronicle's "charge sheet" appeared:

Several dressing room rows towards the end of last season, as well as during pre-season.

The refusal to shake the manager’s hand after being told he hadn’t been appointed captain at Leeds.

The potential to be a bad influence on younger players in the dressing room, with several of the squad still under 21.

The impression created on United’s new signings and future signings of the club, some of which could be in place soon.

A rant during the warm-up at Leeds, at half-time and at full-time following the 3-2 defeat.

Barton’s dismay over the decision to allow new boy Yohan Cabaye take all of the corners and free-kicks during the game against Leeds.

Hopefully one of those dressing room rows also followed the season-closing 3-3 draw with West Bromwich Albion, when a few home truths really needed to be aired - and the club owner was amongst those most peed off by our turning three points into one.

Having only featured in two pre-season first team games out of five though, those concerns over Barton being a bad influence must surely have been present last season - prompting the question again why this alleged bad apple joined in pre-season training with the first team and then featured at both Darlington and Leeds.

Never mind these "future signings", Barton has already had the opportunity to "poison" our quartet of new arrivals.

And as for claiming that Barton's presence could deter players from moving to SJP, we can think of a few other names who would have a similar effect....

If Barton was unhappy with the captaincy going to Shola Ameobi at Elland Road, who can blame him? It's reassuring that someone with a squad number was bothered enough by Sunday's display to have a rant, rather than sleepwalk home wearing headphones as many of them did.

PS: Alan Pardew comments, April 2011:

"Joey's behaviour has been exemplary, often under extreme provocation, since I've been here. Joey is conducting his life off the pitch in the right way.

"Since I have managed Joey he has been a quality player for me and deserves the armband. In life, you have to deal with people as you find them. I don't dismiss anyone because someone told me their reputation is that of a horrible person or a nasty player.

"Joey's career has been about extremes. I have to make sure he is on the right path and I am doing that. I try to give him the guidance and respect he wants."

And the free transfer.

  Joey7Barton  Joseph Barton

Made to train alone today, how predictable.........

Incredible. I hate them.

Disgrace. Really and truly a huge disgrace.

Absolutely. They're treating them like a disabled dog.

Hope there will be some protests against Ashley against Arsenal. It won't help, I know, but it at leasts would show what the fans think.

It would show what you think. Not what ALL the fans think.

The last thing we need is to make a huge deal out of this during the match against Arsenal. Let it fucking be for once. Will only disrupt the rest of the team.

What an utterly absurd post.

To apply that logic to all southerners is moronic. I hardly ever reply to WUM posts or posts that show such complete ignorace, simply because it's a waste of time, but in this case I have to say, you're ocming out with a load of pure, unadulterated bollocks.

Not all the fans, true. But there were many, many fans who were shouting and chanting Joey's name from the stand at the end of last season and this year in pre season.
