TRon
Shepherd...great. those quotes are taken from his talk sport interview where he also said there would be one price for him and one fee for anyone else wanting to buy the club, basically saying Ashley would not sell to him. Dont know about anyone else but hope it comes off but doubt it will ,Shepherd made big financial mistakes as we know but him and a proper board would hopefully run it correctly this time around and he would be reeled back in from Owenesque stupidity. I wouldn't want Shepherd anywhere near the club, he damn near led us to financial meltdown last time the fat oaf. It was horrendous when we had no money wasn't it. I used to cry myself to sleep when we paid a decent fee for a player and I was forced to travel to foreign lands watching the useless c***s play in those s*** european competitions. I had a few beers while I was there but it tasted oh so bitter. It's much better now. Two words: Leeds Ridsdale That's not an Ashley defence in any shape or form but people defending Shepherd and the mountain of debt we were left with need to stop pretending there weren't going to be consequences to his reckless Hollywood transfers. I love the way Leeds are always used as an example. It's like a parent saying "I'd like my son to be a doctor when he grows up" and someone saying "Two words. Harold. Shipman". One extreme example doesn't make an argument. And the majority of our debt was on the extending of the ground as you well know. I still remember when Shepherd brought Fat Sam here and he wanted to bring his backroom staff of 40 experts, Freddie reasoned "if Bolton can afford his backroom staff so can we". Financial whiz wor Freddie.
James
Please let this be true. (and successful) JOEY BARTON AND NEWCASTLE SET TO HOLD PEACE TALKS Sunday August 7,2011 By John Richardson TROUBLED Newcastle United star Joey Barton has agreed to meet the club’s hierarchy this week to end the tweeting war. Newcastle last week lost patience with their midfielder, banishing him to train with the kids and telling him he was free to join another club. Owner Mike Ashley had become fed up with what he perceived as damaging tweets from the controversial Barton, who has effectively been ‘banned’ by England boss Fabio Capello, as exclusively revealed in today’s Sunday Express. But now, following conciliatory talks between Barton’s advisor and club officials, it has been agreed that the player and his agent will meet St James’ Park chief executive Derek Llambias. That has been set up for early this week, and if the talks go well Barton will be taken off the transfer list and could face Arsenal on Saturday evening in the Premier League. If Barton remains at Newcastle, where he could even be offered a new contract, the disappointed clubs will include Stoke City, Everton and Aston Villa. Among those who wants Barton to stay is former Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd, who revealed he would love to buy back the club. Shepherd, who still regrets joining Sir John Hall in selling out to Ashley, confessed: “If the price was right I’d look at buying the club.” One of Shepherd’s last acts as Toon supremo was to sanction the signing of Barton for £5.8million from Manchester City. He has looked on in bewilderment as the row between the player and the Toon management escalated, and Shepherd believes the situation could have been handled better. “Barton’s a £6m player, there’s no doubt about that,” he said. “Football, though, is like no other business. You wouldn’t look to get rid of an asset like him for nothing in any other industry.” Shepherd would love to be back in the boardroom – but he can’t see it happening. “I don’t think Mike would sell to me,” he said. “Maybe for a billion pounds!” ROCHDALE boss Steve Eyre has offered to let Barton train with his League One club. Eyre, who was a youth coach at Manchester City when Barton was a player at the club, said: “He was as good as gold for me.” http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/263493/Joey-Barton-and-Newcastle-set-to-hold-peace-talks Hope this is true like.... It is the Express. Voicemouth for the anonymous NUFC 'Club Official' Going to happen in my opinion.

"I want my best players playing for the club but Joey needs to buy into what we're doing. If he doesn't, he'll probably go. We'll assess it on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Me and Joey will have a couple of texts and take it from there." http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/aug/07/newcastle-united-alan-pardew

Dan Gleebals
IF, big IF.. These peace talks took place and Barton was to remain (and signs new contract on the original terms agreed), who is the real winner in all this? Both parties look like complete twats IMO, neither comes out looking any wiser.

Dan Gleebals
We are The fans? yeh, get to keep him I agreed we can ill afford to loose him on a number of levels, still not sure we win though. It seems most of his frustrations are around our transfers (out and lack off in). Nothing has changed (although it could I guess), so we then have player signed up who is going to be more disruptive on a longer term contract. JB, unless I am wrong, will not change the way this board/owner operates, so if, big if, he remains, some has seriously backed down.

These peace talks took place and Barton was to remain (and signs new contract on the original terms agreed), who is the real winner in all this? Both parties look like complete twats IMO, neither comes out looking any wiser. If what you have described is what happens (it's a big if) then we are clearly the winner. Try this scenario: Barton (advised by his c*nt of an agent) sticks his lip out, gives it large on twitter looking for a free transfer and a decent signing on fee. He and the agent are expecting Champions League clubs to form a queue. But there is a problem, no one really wants to pay his current wage rate and they all view him as a major PR risk. Most worringly Stoke appear to be the club most interested in doing some sort of deal. Suddenly the Newcastle January offer looks a lot more attractive? As you say nothing has changed from last week and I don't think Obertan is going to change his mind on the transfer front. The best I am hoping for is that he decides to see out this season with us as I think we need him in that midfield for the time being. If the team ends up doing OK then I would be less concerned about him moving on at the end of the season.
Cronky
I think Joey's pride has been hurt by a) not being given a new contract when he had been acting like he was a leader and an essential member of the team and b) the thought of having to pay second fiddle to a bunch of Frenchmen rather than leading them. I just can't see Joey making the necessary moves. It doesn't look like a bigger or equivilent club is in for him, so I believe he'd like to stay, but unless he was prepared to swallow a large element of his general attitudes and persona, I could only see further episodes of aggravation ahead. Pardew is talking about conciliation, but I doubt that that is Joey's language, at heart. He strongly feels the need to win, or at least not to look like he's been beaten. Dan Gleebals
I am not sure its Bartons agent that has kicked this all off. I think the lad had has just said what he see's and thinks (also over reacting to situation at Leeds), how would any agent suggest a rant againt your club on twitter as a ticket to a top 4 in the premier league or any other for that matter? OzzieMandias
If he signs a contract that's the same as the one the club originally offered him, I'd say it's a draw.
