On the radio earlier they said he is a nightmare.  Often refuses to travel with the first team to matches and makes his own way there and turns up to training when he feels like it - can be 2 hours late sometimes.  There would be just too many problems with him at NUFC.  Can definitely see there being friction between him and Barton.

 

Warnock says the other players are not allowed to give him the ball in his own half because he is to too much of a liability in that area of the pitch.

He has always been one of the first to go over to the fans and often throws his shirt to the crowd so I didn't see anything unusual.

This. Been saying it all summer. Why let a player of his calibre go for free if we're so desperatly in need of cash? Selling players for £45m and still not afford what you need should indicate that you shouldn't let one of your best players leave for free.

Oh well, just came on here to see what the updates were and this.  

 

Total Sport earlier, Ando was saying he didn't think Joey would join QPR, and he would turn them down and come back as a hero (as aluded to on here this afternoon), basically being stubborn towards Ashley. That was obviously before Barton's tweets.  

 

Not sure what to think of his tweets to be honest. Part of me can understand him wanting security, but if he really didn't want to go, he has this final year left, and could have stuck it out.

That £44k bonus figure is misleading.

 

The details I'd found are:

 

The bonus is in two stages. The first bonus is 25% of base pay in shares of £1 per share. The first bonus target was underlying EBITDA of £155m in 2009-10 and was achieved in that Year. The first bonus will vest in 2012.

 

The second bonus is 75% of base pay in shares of £1.25 per share. The second stage of the bonus was conditional upon the first bonus target being met in 2009-10, attaining underlying EBITDA of £195 million in 2010-2011, and underlying EBITDA /Net Debt ratio of two or less at the end of 2010-11. All these targets were achieved in the Year.

 

The average salary at Sports Direct is £20,000.

 

So I might be wrong here but by my calculations the average bonus will be about £24,000 in shares over a period of 2 years. Which is a very tidy sum but nowhere near what was quoted in the press.
