Joey Barton (now retired)

Recommended Posts

Funny video  definitely Brent-esque

What's people's opinion of Joey now that some time has passed? Part of me still likes the guy, but I cant really forgive the stupid shit he got himself into the first year or so after he signed for us like. What was he like with our fans at QPR (A)? (Shit did he even play that fixture? I can't remember)

He's still mildly amusing, just glad he isn't orchestrating his own personal circus here anymore.

It was odd, it was like almost bang on 50-50, the reception he got from our fans. Some fans were actively booing him, some were cheering. 2 guys behind me were having a pretty heated argument about what they thought of him. However after the game was over, he was the last one off the pitch and got a loud 'one joey barton' from pretty much everyone in the away end.

Joey's problem is that he has to conform to the extreme of a personality stereotype, whether it be resident hard man or cultured intellect. He seems totally incapable of just being himself and accepting normality.

Erm, surely he is, by default, being himself.

Well by the nature that being himself is pretending to be something else... Maybe. :shifty:

Nah, it has a use, but it's encompasses more than the surface definitions.  Basically, when you say it to someone you are implying to the person that they must try and put on a particular version of themselves that is perceived (by you/them/whoever) as being the best version of themselves for that situation.

I was being mischievous/myself...  Heh.

So in effect the phrase "be yourself" is useless, as nobody can ever not be ones self.

Think next time before you start slinging phrases about that you don't understand Shola, reet?

Yes sir.  :undecided:

Although such a literal interpretation of the word is not what i implied.
