I love reminiscing. The videos Ashley17 has been uploading lately were class.

It's just very reminiscent (ah...ah!) of the Pardew era when we'd all cry around the campfire.

Channel 5 iirc. Lionel Perez in goal. Stuart Pearce FK.

Oh to be 8 years old again

I have equally fond memories as this was a rare game I could watch on Terrestrial TV as my old man was either too tight to get Sky TV or just preferred not having it as it gave him a ready made excuse to go to the pub every weekend.

He did take me to watch all the Monday night games at the Social Club mind, and bought me a panda pop.

Bellamy & Robert man. Transformational and added about 3 years to Shearer's top level career.

We were so close to having Rui Costa alongside him that season as well. Imagine that pair man.

I'd have died like, he was probably my favourite player at that time. So underrated when it comes to players that are talked about from that era now.

Can't believe Alberto didn't include Hamann's freekick away to Bray Wanderers man. (Highlights v. Juventus straight after it)

"Alessandro Del Piero was tremendous..."

Fuck me that Juve kit and tracksuit were special.

I can't find anything online to why it fell through in the end. I remember all the links after Gullit arrived, only thing I can find is an Independent article saying we'd agreed a £6.5m fee and he'd flown to Tyneside.

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football-gullit-moves-for-rui-costa-1197413.html

Haven't googled it but were we not close (or after) Boban and/or Seedorf under Gullit?

That was at a time where The Chronicle were the main transfer talk source for us. Sad seeing the state of it now, just an aggregator these days.

Getting The Chronicle delivered and seeing we had signed randoms like Acuna for £1m was genuine excitement.
