Im gonna keep hammering away at this point

But if Hughton puts two upfront tonight, we dont lose whether Butts playing or not. Butt isnt the reason we lost tonight atall.

yes he is

To those blaming Butt - there were 4 other midfielders playing tonight who didn't do their job. Butt isn't the player he was, but it dosen't mean he deserves to be make into a scapegoat. Remember, he was one of the few players who actually gave a **** throughout last season.

Okay, it appears everyone has quickly forgotten how inept this guy is. We'll give it another couple of weeks. After we've all had a chanceto watch his useless performances then we'll see where your affection for hm is at then.

I have no doubt whatsoever what is going to happen now he is back and straight into the team though. I watched enough of this guy last season to know that as long as he is in the team the losses will pile up.

We shall see.

I've never said that he'd be my first name on the team sheet. For me, he is back up and he probably accepts that. Doesn't mean he should be made a scapegoat for tonight's 'performance' when 4 other midfielders hardly covered themselves in glory either.

Maybe not, but our chances of winning are significantly reduced because Butt isn't the creative force either Guthrie or Barton are and he's more prone to rash challenges than either of those two (yes, even Joey).

Tbh our whole midfield has been poor this season. Maybe bar Reading and a glimpse of quality from Guthrie against Leicester. It's a joke really, and if we go up we need major investment in that midfield as it would get torn apart in the Premier League.

Nolan's looked horrendously unfit, Barton looks like he couldn't be fucked, Smith's done his job, and Guthrie's not had much of a chance.

This might actually be the ultimate nightmare scenario as it will likely mean a midfield duo of Butt and Smith. Do you actually want us to go down another league? Do you understand that any midfield duo that includes Butt is doomed to eternal failure. Yes, even Butt and Gerrard. You would seriously sign off on a midfield duo that includes Butt? You scare me.

Knew it was gonna come eventually, and yes, f***ing embarrassing.

Look at that team today, f***ing well paid supposedly good players, getting beat of BLACKPOOL!!!!!!!!

There's plenty of teams in the league worse than Blackpool, if you knew anything about this league. They're a decent side.

We need to accept we won't win EVERY match. You have to deal with a bad result now and again.

Yep i know a bit about it, and know we wont win every match, hence i said it was coming.

Still, to lose to Blackpool is fuckin embarrassing for a club of Newcastles stature, a sign of the times.

 Do you realise you're exaggerating to a ridiculous degree. Also, one of Barton or Guthrie will be in the middle if they are fit.

Ive no idea what you're waffling on about really.

What im saying is that Nicky Butt had little to do with why we lost tonight, that doesnt mean he helped. That doesnt mean im suggesting that hes our new saviour and should be the base of our side. It means he isnt the reason we lost.

Look at the cardiff match. We were dominated for the large majority of the game because of the tactics combined with the formation, that was without Butt playing. Sure this time Butt being in there may have made it even easier for the opposition...but you're looking at the small points and ignoring the whole set up putting us on the backfoot in the first place to create that problem.

The issue is we give the ball away endlessly. You could leave Butt out, play with 10 men & id expect that midfield to have more time on the ball than they did tonight.

Smith and Guthrie central and Barton behind the front man is how this midfield three should be, but it's so impossibly obvious Hughton can't see it. Might as well make it all too difficult for no reason.

He's making it difficult because we have no wingers and he has to compensate for this.

To the kneejerkers: we lost, get over it. We will win on Saturday.

Were you lot screaming "Keegan out" when we lost to Grimsby in 1992?

If we had lost Sunday would you have said we'll win Wednesday?

Have thought that in some of our wins if the opposition had taken the chances we'd afforded them or had a little bit more rub of the green we could have dropped points like, has felt kind of like we've been riding our luck a little bit and were due a defeat.
