I still do not understand who designs these stadia. It's like they cannot conceive of a situation where a player might stray a few metres off the pitch. Why is there a staircase to underground that close to the pitch. Where the hell does it even go? Honestly, I am failing to think of what purpose there could be for a staircase in that position that goes under the pitch. My father is an architect and he be shot for sending that in. It actually reminds me of that horrible incident a few years ago where a Croatian player died because he slammed his head on a concrete wall that happened to be a metre away from the touchline. It's reckless.

Court threat for artist over NUFC cartoons

Nov 6 2010 by Tom Mullen, Evening Chronicle

SKETCHES of Toon cartoon characters have sparked a legal threat by Newcastle United.

Mike Ashley’s club has failed to see the funny side of artist Gary Hogg’s drawings and is threatening legal action.

Gary’s greetings cards feature quirky characters in black and white shirts.

He has sold them for months on his website, making a modest income.

But after attempting to sell them worldwide through a third-party website, the St James’s Park giants stepped in to say enough is enough.

An e-mail sent to Gary from the website, www.zazzle.co.uk, said: “We have been contacted by legal representatives for the Newcastle United Football Company, and at their request, have removed the product.

“Specifically, your product infringes upon the intellectual property rights of Newcastle United.”

Gary, 57, from Blyth, immediately replied and asked what he was doing wrong, and was told to contact NUFC directly.

He did this, only to be referred back to the website, who in turn referred Gary to the club - leaving the life-long Magpies fan mystified.

“In theory I’m losing money. It’s coming into the busiest period too,” he said.

“Certainly no-one has contacted me directly. It’s strange. Everything I do is in support of the club. Now I might have upset Sunderland a few times!”

The only theory Gary has is the club may be unhappy to see the cards appearing in Google internet searches for Newcastle United.

There is the possibility the cards may have been appearing above the club’s official website.

Gary said: “They’re maybe upset that I’ve used their name to promote them and appear before them in Google. - but so do a lot of other people.

“The cards, T-shirts and mugs I have which don't mention United are still on the website. And nothing has been said about my own website.

“I’ve had over two million hits and have never had any problems with Newcastle United in the past. So it’s obviously just this regime.

“Newcastle United still haven’t been in touch with me so I can only guess that was the problem. I’m certainly not going to stop drawing little men with black and white striped tops in my cartoons.”

A spokesman for the club said: “We can confirm that the club, via its lawyers, have been in contact with Mr Hogg, regarding the unauthorised use of the club’s intellectual property rights.”

When asked to explain what this means, they said the club had nothing else to add.

Website www.zazzle.co.uk said: “For more information or questions with regards to this, please contact Newcastle United Football Club

Wimbledon statement.

Depending on the outcome of two replays, we have been drawn against Milton Keynes in the FA Cup 2nd round to be played on 27 November.

Most people know the way that Milton Keynes obtained their football club. It was wrong then and it is still wrong now, which makes this fixture very painful for us. However, when we entered the FA Cup we understood that this might happen and we will go about our business professionally and complete the fixture. But we would have preferred that it hadn’t happened. We have no further comment to make at the moment.

Don't they have to beat quite a good side away to get through?
