Toon bosses are worried about their striking options for the remainder of the season, as the club attempt to make an immediate return to the Premier League. Central defender Matthew Kilgallon is expected to move to Newcastle next month from Sheffield United. That would allow the Toon to loan 23-year-old Taylor to United - who are in need of temporary defensive cover - with Macheda heading in the opposite direction. Forward Marlon Harewood will return to Nottingham Forest this month after failing to impress during his loan spell at St James' Park - and Shola Ameobi is considering going to the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria. That leaves Newcastle with one experienced striker in Peter Lovenkrands plus rookies Andy Carroll and Nile Ranger. Italian Macheda, 18, is viewed as a scorer of real promise and is rated highly by Newcastle's staff, who believe he could hit a hatful in the Championship. Dave
We currently have 4/5 forwards on our books and 2 centre halves. Plus they go on about us only having 'one experienced striker in Peter Lovenkrands plus rookies Andy Carroll and Nile Ranger' - so we need 18 year old Macheda? Dave
Nearly as good: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Andy-Carroll-s-Newcastle-future-in-doubt-after-second-arrest-in-15-months-Exclusive-article254241.html England under-21 star Andy Carroll’s long-term future at Newcastle is on the line after being arrested for a second time in 15 months. But if the Magpies decide to ditch the troubled striker there will be no shortage of takers with Chelsea checking him out less than 36 hours before his latest brush with the law. The Londoners are looking to recruit more English players and a scout ran the rule over 6ft 3in Carroll and defender Steven Taylor during the Magpies win over Watford eight days ago. Fuck off.
