Wonder who is telling the truth in this article.  Shepherd says we were paying him £90k a week whilst Llambias claims it was £133k a week.  Owen's salary was usually always quoted around £100k. 

 

while they're both nincompoops, i'd be more likely to believe shepherd. the fact that Llambias chose to preface the amount of pay with 'under kevin keegans management' should tell you all you need to know

 

Well Llambias has yet again broken the 11th commandment and criticised Keegan, but it's interesting to note Keegan's comments on the Owen situation from March 2008 -

I'm not here to defend Lambias but has it occurred to you two he may have been stating a fact? Owen could have been signed on an initial £90K a week with a year on year rise to take it up to £133K when Keegan was here.

 

I really can't see how anything Lambias has said this time is a slur on Keegan.

I wasn't doubting what Llambias was saying, and while including the 'Keegan' detail wasn't a 'slur', I think his reason for putting it in is more than just for stating a passing fact. I think he's irritated by the high esteem that Keegan and Shearer are held in by so many supporters, and he wanted to include a subtle reminder that Keegan was lobbying hard, in public and private, for Owen not to be sold and to be offered a new contract.

 

All perfectly true and, because I'm no fan of Keegan's, I've personally no problem with it. But Llambias would be better off keeping quiet because he's not going to win anybody round that way.

Llambias could only win me around if he killed himself & even then the method would have to be slow & painful.

Why didn't your mate/hero/employee (Cronky has to be Ashley) say "I as managing director offered Michael Owen a contract  one-year extension at £140,000 a week one year extension". The sooner you sack him the better.

For a very short period under KK Michael Owen performed extremely well in what was an alien position for him, contributing not only goals but overall good general performances too. I don't think his heart was ever fully into NUFC from the off but before KK left he often give a good account of himself in his time on the pitch for Souness, Roeder and then Big Sam. I think the whole KK farce fucked him off big style and with it a good number of our players. Owen under KK was fit, sharp and playing really well and looked capable of doing something good at the club. The future looked good for both the player and the club but after KK left I think he just thought "fuck this shit" and to a point I can kind of relate to that. Obviously as a NUFC supporter his lack of heart and the obscene amount of money he earned for doing fuck all in reality pisses me off no end and forces me to wish nothing but the worst for the odious little creap but putting my bias aside I can see why a Michael Owen would decide to simply not give a shit, after all it appeared the owner and his bum chums couldn't either. Under KK, for a spell, I looked at Owen and thought that's why we spent all that money and for that breifest of spells he looked good value. Its actually quite tragic the whole thing, his transfer. From the chase to finally letting him go on a free. Arguably the worst deal in the club's history and one of the reasons why FS was not good for this club, a mad mad deal that was only ever going to end in tears.

I don't think anyone can have much argument with this, there's no doubt that Keegan done enough public rallying to put pressure on the club to give Owen a new contract, if people wondered why the club didn't want to rush into giving him anything it looks like now we know.

 

It's also worth pointing out that while Owen had a great run of form towards the end of the season playing in the hole behind the 2 strikers, it was a formation that he went on to scrap in the last game of the season and went back to a conventional 4-4-2 which he stuck with through pre season and in the opening league and cup games.

 

As for his signing, I thought it was great at the time but looking back now it was always destined to fail as if he avoided injury he would have jumped ship at the first chance anyway.

That's the way I see it. All he cared about was getting into the England side. He wanted to go back to LFC, but after NUFC made a higher offer, he didn't have the balls to hold out for the transfer he wanted for fear of being left on the bench at Real for another season.

 

He'd have been off like a shot if a club he fancied had come in for him offering first team footy.

 

You can see now that he's nowhere near the England squad that all he cares about is being near his horses. He'd rather sit on the bench than play every week if there's a chance of getting something shiny.
