Stifler
http://www.shieldsgazette.com/nufc/Toon-in-new-talks-with.5945975.jp Toon in new talks with Northern Rock Published Date: 30 December 2009 By Andy Hughes NEWCASTLE United is in talks with mortgage lender Northern Rock about renewing a major sponsorship deal. The bank's seven-year contract with the club is one of many deals due to run out at the end of the season. Despite a turbulent couple of years for Northern Rock, a spokesman confirmed it is in talks with club bosses about extending its sponsorship deal. It is believed the club has received more than £25m in shirt and ground sponsorship from Northern Rock. A Northern Rock spokesman said: "It is correct that the deal is up at the end of the season, and we are talking about the issue with the club. "No final decision has been made but there are on-going discussions." In November, the club brought in Liverpool-based marketing specialists Ampersand to help with the new round of sponsorship deals, with the main focus being a new shirt sponsor. Though it's good to have a local shirt sponser I really don't want them to sponsor us anymore, I mean it's common knowledge that Virgin Money is going to buy them out, and I just couldn't handle the word Virgin on my shirt. Dave
Doesn't mean they'd wind up the brand.
Stifler
Doesn't mean they'd wind up the brand. Yeah they will, it's a way of not going through the process of Virgin Money to apply for a banking licence, the name Money will be dropped for bank, and so will Northern Rock, everyone in the finicial scene seems to think the name is now tainted. WarrenBartonCentrePartin
I'm surprised NR are even thinking about negotiating a new deal considering what they've gone through. Would've thought they had more pressing issues than sponsoring Newcastle United.

Would've thought they had more pressing issues than sponsoring Newcastle United. Why not?, the bank is profitable, always has been, they never needed the money they borrowed from the government untill the loan was made public, it was borrowed kncase they needed it, if it wasn't public knowledge then they would never of needed to use it. The government then decided to natioalise the bank, and have given it 2 extra loans which it has never asked for, and it was making a profit ansd was oncourse to pay back it's original loan that it only needed to use after it went public by the end of this year. So basically the government has been given a profitable bank uneeded loans so it can gain on the interest, so putting Northern Rock in uneccasary debt which is still very much manageable. Northern Rock despite this is still making great profits, so their should be no reason at all why they can't sponsor who they wish.

Would've thought having been nationalised, the government would be keen to control 'unnecessary' expenditures in order to make sure the loans are paid off, even if they look set to do so. Stifler
Not really, healthy profits, manageable debt, sponsorship of teams, and those well know and local makes the business very appealing to potential buyers.
Dave
Wasn't Northern Rock doing alright until the news of the loan came out and a load of thick cunts decided to run into town and withdraw all their savings?

Karjala
Get Svens Adult Books in as the sponsor, surely Mike Ashley can make another embarrassment of us.

Doctor Zaius
I hope we dont re-sign with Northern Rock for the simple reason it all started to go tits up when we changed our sponsors from NTL to Nothern rock. Coincidence? I think not
Exiled in Texas
Too much blue there for my liking. Is it now a rule (at least in the Premier League) that you can't have names and numbers over stripes? Don't think so. UEFA Champions League has the requirement for a patch..... Juve have a different shirts for Serie A . http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/12/29/article-1102629-02DE726D000005DC-316_468x313.jpg and Champions League http://italy.theoffside.com/files/2008/10/0k93szhl-346x212.jpg
Guest firetotheworks
Our strip would look so much better with decent coloured numbers and letters mind. Basically anything other than that awful gold we had that time. Preferably red though.
Stifler
I'm sure when we were in Europe, we also had to put a plain patch on the back of our shirts aswell.

LesPaul
I'm suprised how many peoplehated the gold lettered one. Possibly my favourit shirt
Yorkie
I'm suprised how many peoplehated the gold lettered one. Possibly my favourit shirt Ah i didn't like it cos there was too much white on it. Which is why the patch on our back this season looks especially bad. Our kits are always better when they're primarily black imo. Plus plastic gold numbers/plastic Adidas stripes... urgh.
Exiled in Texas
I prefer the Black patch to the white one. Juve used both too, and the black definately looks better. http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/00nbbsn3zY8OC/x250.jpg http://italy.theoffside.com/files/2008/10/0k93szhl-346x212.jpg
