If Pompey beat Southampton but then cease to exist and they give Southampton, Portsmouths place instead I can see Sunderland being a little pissed off. Whoever they're due to play, whether they're facing a replay against Southampton or whoever they get drawn against in the next round would simply get a bye through to the next round. The players are under no obligation to take pay cuts, many of them will simply say no, they signed contracts in good faith and West Ham should honour them. They owe a huge amount of cash but they're meeting their repayments at the moment even if that's leaving them with little or nothing with which to invest with. So Man City have a rich owner so would be Ok, but you didn't consider Sunderland and Chelsea who are in the same situation? That would be the same no matter what league they were in though. Juve coped OK, but then they weren't paying a significant portion of their income out to cover interest payments on their massive debts. Plus, clubs in Italy sell their TV rights separately so Juve could have still pulled in a significant revenue from broadcast rights, something that can't happen in England with the collective bargaining system the league uses. I am sure Malcolm Macdonald said something last year about players who are offered a lower wage are automatically allowed to put in a transfer request. I should imgine it will be taken out of next seasons money, I think the EPL only want them to fulfill their fixtures for this season, it maybe given on the agreement that they are relegated.
