AlanSkÃrare
Gary Cahill is too expensive, but I'd love him to partner Colo. Big and steady, yet a good footballer who can pass it well.

colinmk
I'd say to get better than Mike we'd be looking at 8m+ in a transfer fee alone. He's done fine this season too and is a good partner for Colo.

AyeDubbleYoo
Aye good point, getting a significantly better player for that position would be pricey. Arsenal have spent a fortune on players who are about as good if not worse.
Colocho
Aye good point, getting a significantly better player for that position would be pricey. Arsenal have spent a fortune on players who are about as good if not worse. Squillaci and Koscielny were poor buys. Consider Samba, he cost something ridiculous like £500,000. We need a big, physical defender, who can pass the ball on the deck to play alongside Colo imo.

But I wouldn't want to replace Williamson with a useless lump just for perceived 'physical presence'. The great thing about Samba is that he's actually good... not just big. Colocho
I'd like us to sign someone like Michael Ciani. Doubt he'd leave Bordeaux though ...
Tooj
Williamson's fine if our ambition is to hover around mid-table. If we want to progress he should be a squad player. I've got loads of time for him though as he seems a decent, honest pro.

magorific
Punk, tdeans whatever,Williamson did not win every aerial ball on Saturday.Far from it. This. Got seriously bailed out several times by Colo and, fair play to the young 'un, Ferguson. Anyone who says different can't have been at the game. Ronaldo
Gary Cahill is too expensive, but I'd love him to partner Colo. Big and steady, yet a good footballer who can pass it well. The type of defender we'd ideally have alongside Colo. Not sure about that. I'd rather a 'stop it at all costs' type like Carragher, but a better version, clearly. We have Colo for the composure and quality on the ball. As for Williamson, I echo what Tooj has already said. He's a great pro and a reliable enough defender for where we currently want to be. Punk77
We could need a samba-kind of stopper. But it's not the department we need to be prioritize right now. Imo it's more important to buy a rb that could challenge Simpson. Talylor is mainly a cd and not a rb. And Perch is not good enough.
Punk77
Man of the match with good margins imo. One of the best games I've seen from him. Won every header. Good positioning resulted in him snapping up a couple of through ball attempts. And he was even cool with the ball.. Had some couple of nice passes to central midfield, but also did it simple when necessary. The difference between him and Taylor was noticeable today. Dave
There weren't any other Martin O'Neill's involved, he left Villa ages ago.

SteveMc
Played well I thought. Willlicini is our best combination by some margin

Colocho
He was good yesterday. I suppose we can only hope that he becomes as steady a player as Colo has, as I can't see us signing a new CB for a year, at the very least.
madras
Quite possibly the best of a bad bunch. Not according to madras who thought he was worse than Taylor. where do i say anyone was worse than anyone else, truth is i thought everyone done ok except for colo, for whom the game seemed to pass by without making any mistakes. think on it, taylor seemed to be marking bent, bent had a very quiet game. most of defending is getting into positions where the oppo doesn't want to pass to the bloke you're marking because the risk of losing the ball is too great due to the player being well marked and that doesn't mean standing on his toes type of defending. someone said something about williamson winning everything in the air....and so he should with it all being down the middle against bent, agbonlahor and young. on the subject of agbonlahor, didn't he get in the gap between centre halves and simpson a few times and was allowed to run on for a while, you'd expect the 'spare' centre half to cover that, we didn't and on one occasion the spare centre half was trying to cover the pass inside allowing him a free shot at goal which harper saved. taylor had a decent game and kept one of the best 'fox in the box' type forwards very quiet, sorry if it wasn't spectacular enough to earn plaudits, unfortunatly for some, good defending has to be spectacular to be recognised.
