One good thing could come out of this mess:-

"Taylor also faces a struggle not to lose a significant amount of weight – a classic symptom of being restricted to a liquid diet."

Losing a stone or so won't do him any harm.  :snod:

Using that logic, someone should break Nolan's jaw.

my mind will change on this if Taylor is forced to leave because of it. I was quite happy to ignore it if it had been sorted out in house, but Taylor having to leave will be nothing short of disgracefull.

I'm not for banning/selling players for incidents like this if they can be sorted out in house and it be the end of the matter, football itself has no morals and it would simply mean another team benefiited from our stance a la bellamy, we have been in decline since we sold him and he has gone on to bigger and better things, and to be a better player. I see no benefit in that for nufc, at all. this doesn't mean it's correct, it's just the way the game is.

Taylor being forced to leave though (if true) puts a very different spin on things.

Taylor doesn't have to leave, if he does it will be totally down to him. The Guardian article mentions that Nolan is part of a powerful dressing room clique, but while I'd be the last one to defend Nolan, it seems to me the spirit throughout the squad is as good as it's been for a long time. If Nolan has been instrumental in that he deserves praise, not underhand insinuations which this bint is indulging in. Steve Taylor is doing himself no favours if she's acting as his mouth piece.

depends on the way the incident came about.

I'm assuming that Taylor must have provoked it to some extent otherwise I don't think the majority of the squad would have sided with Carroll. It does seem as though Taylor is the fly in the ointment just going off what we know...which admittedly isn't a lot.

it's funny how we aren't allowed to say it was carrolls fault as we werent there and its press speculation but its exactly the same press saying the majority of the squad are backing him. most of whom just probably want an in form player in the team and dont want to cause any further problems......lets face it, footballers often tend to be a pretty gutless bunch when it comes to standing up for something beyond their pay.

I don't know whose fault it was, but if the club as a whole are backing Carroll then i don't have a problem with supporting that decision. Like I said, squad unity and team spirit hasn't been this good in a long time and I would think those at the club will have a pretty good handle on what is best for Newcastle  United.

the fact is none of the papers know what the reason is for what happened, and what the aftermath is

Your a bit naive if you think players, agents & family members are not speaking to the press about this off the record.

I know what I said the other day about having Carroll's goals over Taylor's defensive displays, but forcing him out? If true then fucking hell

Treating Carroll like he's the victim

You know you've lost the argument when you resort to insults about your opponent's appearance or personal attributes.

Surely there needs to be two parties involved for it to be an argument?

Because two people had a fight? I have to disagree. I have seen best mates have stupid fights a number of times over the years but that didn't mean they/the group of mates didn't get on well the majority of the time.

When you work with/hang out with the same people over prolonged periods there will be fallings out.

The ego that footballers have will make things a bit different.

It's not just this, Barton was supposed to have been at his worst again.  It looks like you're OK as long as you're in the click.

Barton is always going to be a twat, not much we can do about that at the moment though.

Team spirit has generaly seemed very good this season. Just because two of the younger lads have had a punch up doesn't change that for me.

To be fair, it hasn't looked too bad until this lot kicked off.

What clique? Obviously not everyone is going to get on in a squad the size of Newcastle's but if there are people who don't want to be part of the family they will probably leave. That will be the case whether it's Barton, Taylor or Carroll, and IMO they are welcome to fuck off at the earliest opportunity.

What's Barton's involvement in this like? I must have missed that bit.

Barton doesn't seem to have any involvement and it hasn't been suggested anywhere that he has.

it's because they are winning and doing well for crying out loud, not because there is gernuine comradery between the players.

Sorry, when you said Barton was at his worst again I thought you meant that he had something to do with it all. My bad.

I am pretty sure that even the likes of Enrique and Jonas have been saying how the players all go out together far more than previously and players like Harewood and Simpson have remarked on the great spirit among the players. I think there's probably something more to it than just winning, although that obviously is a big factor.

No, he's had a mention in the article I posted when you asked if farrington had made any comment.

I still think the text/ email that did the rounds is of mackem origin. Taylor is hated down there for the supposed dive in the home game last season. The text whips up anti Taylor sentiment, painting him in bad light despite really being the victim and as much as he may be a big head, it's probably far fetched to say everyone at the club despises him.

Legal view of Newcastle United bust-up

http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/news/north-east-news/2010/03/28/legal-view-on-newcastle-united-bust-up-79310-26122692/

IT has been one of the most talked about punch-ups in the country. Toon star Steven Taylor's jaw was broken in a fight at Newcastle United's training ground last Sunday.

Allegedly it was caused by fellow Magpies star Andy Carroll, who certainly appears to have been in the wars as this picture shows.

Carroll has not been arrested, and now North East legal expert Adam Jackson has explained why police do not pursue all alleged crimes.

The senior lecturer in criminal law at Northumbria University said unless Taylor makes a complaint, there is little officers can do.

“The police are the investigatory body and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) makes the overall decision about whether to prosecute,” he explained. “So when police are deciding whether to investigate a crime they will tend to apply the same tests the CPS would apply.”

When deciding whether or not to take a case to court the CPS ask two questions. Firstly, is prosecution in the public interest, and is there a realistic prospect of conviction?

But in the case of Carroll, 21, and Taylor, 24, things are slightly more complicated.

“Without the complainant’s version of events it’s difficult to establish what’s happened,” Adam continued.

“In order for someone to be convicted a jury would have to be convinced beyond all reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty.

“But if the victim doesn’t give any evidence and no other witnesses are prepared to come forward and make a statement, even if the police investigate and suspect Andy Carroll has caused this injury to Steven Taylor, convincing a jury beyond all reasonable doubt would be difficult.

“It could have been a training ground incident or some kind of accident when they were both jumping for the ball. Without Steven Taylor’s evidence it’s effectively a non-starter.

“All we know is that Steven Taylor has a broken jaw. People have claimed it was Andy Carroll, but apart from all that speculation there is just no evidence.

Adam explained that there is also no charge, other than assault, police could pursue.

“If this had happened in the city centre and they were having a fight while spilling out of a pub on the Bigg Market in Newcastle, the police can rely on public order offences,” said Adam. “They would tend to arrest everybody involved on suspicion of affray and then try to work out who did what.”

But Adam said the bust-up between Taylor and Carroll, which is said to have happened in an ice-bath, was no different to a spat between friends.

“If it happened with two friends while playing five-a-side football it would not be within the remit of the police to pursue that, unless they got a complaint,” he said. “Criminal offences take place everyday that people decide not to report for whatever reason.”

Of course there are some exceptions where pursuing a prosecution is so important that police will go ahead without a victim statement, in particular cases of domestic violence.

Carroll is currently on bail and awaiting a crown court trial over a charge of assault after an alleged incident in a Newcastle city centre nightclub last year.

He is accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Michael Cook in December.

But Adam said this would not affect the police’s decision, and would only come into play if he was arrested, charged and sentenced.

“If he was convicted of that offence and then was convicted of an assault on Taylor they would take both into account when sentencing,” he said.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said that no complaint has been made, but if one is it will be followed-up.
