Carroll did pretty well last year in an inferior league and is in good form right now, but Gyan has proven himself a good player in two top leagues and on several occasions internationally.

26 goals in 92 games in Italy and 14 goals in 47 games in France, hardly proved himself to be a good striker in either league.

It's not all about statistics, ffs. Unlike you, I've actually seen him play throughout this period of time. He impressed with Udinese before his injury and litany of clubs were after him. Rennes paid a lot for him and last year was probably the best of his career with him being near the top of scoring charts for most of the season. His pace, power, and skill have made him a dangerous and useful player in every stage of his career. I actually hate the guy, but he's a fine player. He's not worth 13 million pounds, but that's what happens when you buy a World Cup star on deadline day.

I'm excited about Carroll, but he's not proven anything. Plenty of players have looked good at 21 or in their first matches in the Premiership. Let us give him time to develop before anointing him to some sort of deity.

Bollocks did he impress with Udinese, I don't know which Gyan you were watching.

He was a bog standard Serie A striker, who a lot like our own Oba Martins would meander from the sublime to the ridiculous in terms of goal scoring ability. He's no different to Muntari, in the sense the World Cup was his moment of glory Muntari's being his season at Portsmouth. I'm well aware every Sunderland fan is hearing that Gyan is a waste from Newcastle fans, but I'm not saying he will be poor in the Premier League.

I'm simply saying, when he was in Italy, he was nowhere near worth 13m, he had a purple patch around the time Quagiarella and him signed new deals, but by the sounds of what Optimistic Nut had to say his ability hadn't sky rocketed in France which is no surprise. If they've bought him to take pressure from Bent then good, but if they are expecting him to shoulder some of the goal scoring burden, I think they've made a mistake, and might as well have gone for Kalinic, Mandzukic, or even Zigic.

Also Rennes paid 8m Euro's, a very average sum for a striker of such high calibre...

On the stats side, Bellamy was the ultimate example. Never prolific but allowed us to change the way we  played entirely

We got Ben Arfa on a loan and he is just as good, if not better, imo. :coolsmiley:

I think that a Kevin Phillips in his prime would be perfect next to Carroll.

I honestly cannot see why. Bellamy is the one that sticks out for me.

shearer in his first season here sticks out for me.

the big man nodding it on for the smaller quicker man is such an old fashioned cliche which hardly ever happened with shearer and bellamy, the dynamic was such that theyworked because they werte both bloody good footballers as opposed to a big man knocking it on for a runner.

He's a clever lad as well, during his time at Accra Academy he specialised in studying relationships between organisms and their environment.

He's a Gyan ecologist :bluestar:

Well he's at the right place now, with a right load of c*nts...   :iamatwat:

I've seen him play many times internationally and at club level.

Kezman you are right in a sense. Gyan isn't worth 13 million and Muntari can't start for a club like Inter, but they both have been consistently good players thoughout their careers. it is not their fault that foolish clubs heap so much pressure on them. Gyan was verygood for Rennes last year btw. Combining that with his exploits with the Black Queens he had a fantastic 09-10.

Fucking cringeworthy the bent wank-fest going on over at RTG. Calling him a Sunderland legend because he scored for England :S Their desperation for a club legend is sad!!. One fan even said they didn't care about Adam Johnson scoring because he isn't a Sunderland fan and not a mackem......but "dazzler" is, Braindead!

I don't think anyone is a good partner for Bent really.

That's the problem with him.

he's not a very good footballer but has the good trait of being able to be in the right place. some players go through spells of doing this, he's been doing it that long that it's no fluke. his goals will often lead people to think he's better than he is.

I don't want to get banned and will not insult you directly, but I am disappointed by this poist. You try to have a discussion about football and receive idiocy in return.

It's ok mate, insult away! It was only meant as a light hearted comment.... as you always seem to big-up African players. I didn't mean to come across as an idiot, but thats what I am!
