You're a cockney, you don't know s*** about our local rivalry. Jog on.

Have relatives and friends that live in the North-East, have been going up to Newcastle all my life.

I know about the local 'rivalry', and pity it.

knowing about it and understanding it appear to be completly different things then.

You have to be born here to really understand it.

I'll never truly understand it, I agree.

I could be wrong, but from what I've always been told the rivalry goes back to the English civil war. Newcastle was on the side of the crown, and Sunderland sided with the Parlimentarians - and then a load of shit kicked off about coal and as a cause of that, you hate each other?

I've never lived anywhere where there is such hatred for people that live in a city 12 miles away, people of similar stock to yourselves... You'd think with so many people in this country ready to turn their noses up at the north-east, in disregard - there would at least be some brotherhood between the people of the region?

Couldn't give a fuck about the 'rivarly', it's primitive - fucking medieval. Where else in the country do you think this goes on, to this kind of level? Its good to see that there are people who don't let this obsession rule their lives (know of a couple married for 20 years, one is a geordie, one is a mackem). Tbh, I'm bloody glad it's something I and those I care about, both now and in the future have never been cursed with.

Maybe if some of you guys moved out of the North-East you would see just how abnormal it is, and just how people outside of the North-East react to it?

I think it was:

Colocho doesn't understand or appreciate the rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland, and seemingly believes that its just two cities hating on each other for the sake of hate. He doesn't believe this happens anywhere else in football. He think its primitive that fans can hate each other and fight each other all the time (but doesn't mean we're primitive). Despite him saying he doesn't understand it, he's continued to talk about it, and the fans, and dug himself into a hole.

People have taken offence towards his stance on the rivalry and his ramblings of defence.

The basis of this is coming from his own experiences, 4 months worth of living in the North-East, and (I'm guessing) the rest living in Essex, and only ever seeing fans hurt each other while up here. Its all daft, but a little funny, and yet not so funny at times.

In brief - an armchair fan said the rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland is primitive and doesn't understand why we (The North-East) allow our existence to orbit around it (though no-one has involved 'Boro in this as I assume people are hoping they just cease to exist).

I do understand that it happens elsewhere in football, but have never seen the 'rivalry' extend so far beyond football. The rivalry began before football... I understand that.

I've have seen fans from other teams get in fights elsewhere, but as I've reiterated so many times now, I've never seen more blind hatred (that some hold) for the inhabitants of a town twelve miles away than Newcastle/Sunderland.

I'm not an 'armchair' fan. I've attended home and away games since the age of 4 or 5, and continue to go to away games. I have not been to a home match since the sacking of Chris Hughton.

Mags work alongside Mackems without any incident, if RTG is anything to go by, so the last TEN pages are bit daft really. Colocho says stupid, moronic things all the time without people picking up on them!

You also forgot that he was obviously unaware of the existance the city of Glasgow.

Its Colocho, man. He's a daft lad with a keyboard, similar to neesy. I'm not his biggest fan, and perhaps he should have expected some of the posts that have came his way after admitting he didn't understand Newcastle (despite trying to be part of Supporter's Group for us). However, some of the comments in reply to his stupidity are in turn daft.

I won't defend him and his attitude towards oldtype though, that was just wrong. Not even Max Clifford would touch that one.

So if you lain to have never seen more blind hatred elsewhere, could it be suggested it is you who is blind.

You ever seen an Old Firm game?

Ever seen a Liverpool Man Utd game?

Any South American derby?

Belgade derby?

And that's just off the top of my head. Yes we get carried away on derby day, although to be fair I can't remember watching Newcastle fans destroying their own stadium.

I think it's a load of crap to be honest.  I've lived with Sunderland fans, had mackem mates, my mother is a sunderland supporter and while, yes, there is a lot of banter and rivalry it's never at the level you could describe as hatred.  You always get some twats in every rivalry who take things way too far and that goes for every single one of them, not just the north east rivalry.

Wait until West Ham play Millwall if you want to see some real hatred  :idiot2:

Especially given how many Hammers fans come from that utopian, cultural and intellectually-advanced peace-den that is Essex.

What comments were they? Suggesting he is an 'armchair fan' with no ties to the club. Or saying fuck you in Korean?

The whole post came across a bit condescending and seemed to almost touch upon being a bit racist. The swearing in Korean was just, well... ' ' what was the point? No idea what oldtype thinks of it like, but hey that's just my opinion of reading a post for 4 minutes.

I don't understand it. Never seen a post like it before, where two posters can post within 12 minutes of each other, and seemingly hate each other, even though they share the same board. Can't think of any other boards like it. Its primitive.

Mate it's banter and what football is all about. I hate mackems and Sunderland, but I don't despise or want to beat up any individual mackem. There's obviously people who take it to far but they are in the minority, and to tar the whole of the Geordie nation with the same brush is stupid.

Neither was Jade Goody, but everyone perceived her to be. Have to be careful with what you say, you should be aware of this (what with it being your vocation in life).

From personal experience, all the Mackems I know and I've met, not one has punched me in the face, and I haven't punched any of them in the face. Suppose I'm not a super fan or something. Its all banter, then a few idiots take it too far. I think I know what you're trying to say, that there's the banter in football, but even after the whistle, we're still having a go at each other. However, from what I've seen and experienced its just banter.

You don't get that elsewhere as people have other things to care about. It maybe a stereotype, but football does mean a lot up here, and the people of the North-East do share a common bound - its football.

We think Mackems are idiots, and the Mackems think we're all 'Mag at Work', who can't stop talking about Keegan and winning the league. Its banter. Its a regional stereotype and role that both fans fall into and play along with.

Sometimes you get the radgies who throw fists and fight, but you get that everywhere. You get that in pubs and clubs because one guy is balder and uglier than the other guy. This reminds me of when oldtype posted about his experiences in Newcastle, and from his limited experiences here suffered from a bit of racism, and so thought all of Newcastle was racist (which offended and upset a few people at the time). Hell, I think it was in THIS thread!

In the end we saw it from his point of view, and he saw it from ours. I like oldtype, can't imagine why anyone would want to swear at him.

Again, that is FOOTBALL rivalry. It's not something that extends far within the respective local communities.

:troll:

It has to be.

No one can be that fucking thick.

Those are just tame side shows compared to disgusting internet banter and the shocking, inhumane occasional inbred joke in the workplace that occurs between Newcastle and Sunderland fans.

There are certainly social rivalies between teams like Millwall/Chelsea and teams like West Ham that extend beyond football.  It's not just "Haha, your players are inferior and we also believe them to play in an unsporting manner.  Your songs are quiet and your teams colours are unfashionable"  It's stuff like "Fuck off back to Albert Square you fucking scum".

(As an outsider, I think I'm in a good position to judge it.  If only you southerners could see how primitive you seem when you come out with things like that, I pity you)

Liverpool and Manchester teams don't just sing about football and tragedies, they sing about how the other town is culturally and socially inferior ("You stole my stereo" "In your liverpool slums" "Fuck off back to Moss Side")

How about the basis of Chelsea's "Blues Brothers" allegiance with Linfield and Rangers? I think that's shows more neaderthalism than anything between us and Sunderland.

Dear god, he's found yet another moral high horse to jump on

Great response... Thanks for proving what I already thought. Everything you've said has been completely spineles. Yumago, samanes-seki.

Really? You've really googled Korean swear words? Regardless of everything else that's kicking off in this thread I must say that this just makes you look like a dick.

Those aren't actual Korean words. Nor are they Japanese or Chinese words.

Surprise surprise.
