They wont have been paying much to a player who came from Belgian football and was regarded as a squad player. Be very surprised if he's on more than 20k. Aye, but they're not paying him anymore. The wages under previous contract usually dictates to an extent the wages under his next employment. Unfortunately in the past we've been an exception to this norm. Based on what the media guess the player is earning? Based on simple economics. Second bit, I think it's a widely regarded fact that we have paid players over the odds. jdckelly Posted January 14, 2011 Share Posted January 14, 2011 I suspect that some of the competing clubs like Blackburn, West Ham and Villa, are feeling a bit more desperate and are prepared to pay over the odds in wages at the moment. Longer term, you're liable to end up with a problem. Blackburn without question, West Ham maybe (though the new owners will surely have been shocked by the wage bill coming in) but Villa certainly won't. One of the problems Lerner had with MON seems to have been the excessive wage bill, particularly for players who he wasn't playing. The suggestion is that his unwillingness to cut the wage bill led to him walking out. I can't see Villa paying over the odds, even if they shift players like Carew or Reo-Coker out. on west ham they did just green light wayne bridge and 90k a week wages and want keane so yes they are willing to throw money around in a blind panic. Agree on villa though. Really don't like this jan window, either keep it open all the time or shut the jan window because whats going at present isn't good for clubs long term finances as clubs just panic buy for stupid wages in the limited time of the jan window Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

He'd have likely been on around 5-10k at Twente, which is why I struggle to see him on over 20k here. Part of the reason our scouting system is in place to find this type of player is they wont add a lot to the wage bill. He is not a high profile and would have been happy to simply make the move to the Premier League. He was highly rated within a league winning team and had just started every game in the world cup for his country. Might not of been well known in England but I'm sure he'd of been internationally known by scouts and managers. Kinda agree with you on numbers though, I can't see him being on more than £30kpw. Apparently he won money in a casino betting on 17. I highly doubt he is an avid Alan Smith fan, especially considering he indirectly pays Smith's massive weekly wage for negligible on the pitch return.
