Village Idiot
Since we goalies also deserve our shot at playground/Sunday league glory The opposition winger broke down our flank and I went to cover the short post. He reached the byline and crossed back to the edge of the box where one of their players pulled an awesome Essienesque volley that thundered towards the top corner of my far post. Somehow I flew all the way and put my hand on it, tipping it over the bar. Everyone just sat there silent until the opposition's captain came over and told me "This would have been one of the best goals I have ever seen but instead is one the greatest saves I have ever seen". Classy guy.
clintdempsey
Surely you must have scored some goals as well VI? I remember my last season in the youth team as a goalie. I was captain, designated PK/FK taker. Won the scoring charts by a landslide. 18 games, 6 goals conceded, 29 scored. That was probably the most fun season I've ever had. I've also been fortunate enough to save a couple of penalties in play-off matches and stuff like that. Let's hope for another one this year.
Shak
When I was about 11 or 12, we had a game in primary school between the two different classes, ended up going to penalties. We had no specialist goalkeeper, everyone just took turns having a stint in goals. I had been in goals during the game when the other team had gotten and scored a penalty, I remember I came quite close to saving it though. The teacher/ref picked a keeper for each team, obviously he'd seen something in my attempt on the penalty during the game and picked me. Saved all three of their penalties, we scored all three of ours. Spent a couple of years playing keeper for my local side, and in the process developed a nickname that people still call me by to this day.

Dokko
Best save I ever made wasn't actually on the pitch, it was when i was a 17 year old glass collector in Whitley. Bank holiday Monday jammed to the rafters, doing me job, had a stack of glasses in one arm while adding to the pack with the free hand, squeezing my way through just about to get to the bar when some lad accidentally knocked two glasses off the bar, one which I caught with my free hand, the other with my foot to stop it smashing while still keeping a hold of the stack, turned around and some guy said "Nice save" and smiled...It was Shay Given. That was it for me, favourite NUFC player from thereon in. Such a shame the bastard broke my heart.

Ameritoon
Played goalie for a few years in my youth. Made a few nice safes, but one I remember was in a 5-a-side, guy had the ball on his right from a decent length out, put his far post on the ground. It was pretty far away from me, but dove across the ground and got a hand on it to push it out for a corner.
QBG
I've played in goal a fair few times, I'm ok at it. Most memorable one would be at a Bradford City summer soccer school a few yards out a lad hit a piledriver of a shot, hit me square in the face and bounced away for a corner Was told a few years ago that I had interest from a scout at Bradford City whilst at that school, he spoke to my Mam and gave her his card. She never informed me and never got in touch with them
Village Idiot
Try changing the thread title to "best save i ever made " It's a play on the original "best goal I ever scored" thread title, I know it's grammatically shaky.
Guest optimistic nit
mine sort of falls into both catagories. was in a little league game, ball was crossed in, the striker was free in the box around the penalty spot, takes one touch and volleys it at the bottom corner from about 10 yards out, i dive before he strikes it, guessed right, tipped it onto the post only for it to come back of the post, hit me on the forehead and go in. was absolutely furious. Pilko
Can remember diving across the line to stop a curling lob shot after a corner was cleared and heading the travelling ball off the post at such an angle and a speed that it went out for a throw in on the other side. This was in maybe school year 6 or 7. Think we drew 0-0 too so it counted for something.
