Yorkie
Quality backup . If only Guthrie had his heart. Oh come on. You're basing this off barely five minutes of selective highlights. There's no doubt that it's promising news but to start comparing him to other members of the team is a bit much; especially those who're unfortunate enough to have suffered impact injuries this pre-season. I still like Guthrie, he showed plenty of heart staying at the club and playing a pivotal role in making sure we returned to the Premier League, particularly when played out of position half the time. It's a bit of a pleasure to be blessed with such depth at centre-mid now... it's such an important role. You need only look at the year we went down (and a couple of the years preceding it). Generally, total garbage in the centre of the park, particularly in depth. Guthrie was probably the best centre-mid we had! Mental how some people are still on the lad's back after one shitty performance at The Hawthorns. Guthrie's been a decent servant to this club. Rant over. JH
Yorkie Short memories and all that. Guthrie was great in Ch season.
Cronky
Absolutely nothing wrong with Guthrie's attitude or his heart. He's always given his all. Unfortunately, he's not the greatest athlete and that will prevent him from reaching the heights that other players will achieve. No-one said that life was fair. Lets be honest, Guthrie won't have been falling over which offers to stay in the Premiership, if any.
Yorkie
If Guthrie had stuck in a transfer request (or made it publicly known he wanted out, which ever's easier for the player), someone would've nabbed him.
Hanshithispantz
Guthrie has gotten a pretty hard deal ever since his abortion of a performance at The Hawthorns. He's shown in the past (and at times last season) that he's more than capable back-up
Flip
Guthrie has gotten a pretty hard deal ever since his abortion of a performance at The Hawthorns. He's shown in the past (and at times last season) that he's more than capable back-up Agreed. Was very good in the Championship and has been decent in the PL, he's like you say more than capable as back-up and can see him play well next to Tiote and two real wingers. toontownman
Always liked Guthrie, think he gets alot of unearned shit on here sometimes. No Nolans gone its time to pick on Guthrie for being overweight, slow and unfit. Showed a ton of potential in our promotion season, maybe doesnt have enough to nail down a starting spot in a top 6 team but he has time and is adequete back up. At 24 I can see him wanting out to get regular football though. Gosling's pre-season is a big plus so far, likewise Abeid and Vuckic. Would still like another DM to cover tiote but we are pretty chocked in the middle, with alot of talent still young and developing.
nufc4eva
Gosling looks like he has good movement, will get a few goals I reckon
Guest BooBoo
Nah not having it. At PL level, Guthrie's very mediocre. As pointed out, his lack of athleticism really shows at the top level.

Good back up tho'. As shown against Spurs for example last year. Still can't work out what happened at the Hawthorns mind....
Guest
I'd be a bit disappointed if Guthrie prevented Abeid and Vuckic's progress by being ahead of them in the pecking order though.

Though he does have experience of the Premier League and we'll need some of that when Tiote is at the ACN.
Guest sicko2ndbest
Midfielders by ability Tiote Barton Cabaye Gosling Abeid Guthrie Vuckic Smith Personally because of age and capacity to improve Guthrie and smith should be vulnerable From what I've seen

Guest
I'd move Cabaye up one and put Gosling as number 4 in that list.
Cajun
Are we getting a little ahead of ourselves with Abeid? I haven't seen the friendlies so that's a genuine question but it does seem like people might be jumping the gun a little?
Ronaldo
He can run with the football. I can't remember the last time Guthrie did that.
Colos Curls
He looks ahead of all of our reserve players in development. Can run with the ball and pick a decent pass so is instantly above guthrie for me, i dont rate guthrie at all lol. i base my opinion purely on the friendlies he has played with us mind
High Five o
The pass to Ba man, it was mint. Hope he can manage to stay injury free this season. Think he could be a very valuable player this season.
