Ketsbaia
Also, if the winter break will only be 2 weeks, they may as well not have it. 2 weeks is absolutely nowt. Are they planning it over Christmas, or sometime in January?
Guest Brummiemag
The winter break is a joke for 2 reasons. Firstly, if you have a 2 week break in say the first 2 weeks in Jan, you could then get a bad spell of weather in the second 2 weeks with no games played and so on. Secondly, as has already been pointed out, teams would fly off to Asia etc for exhibition games, tournaments would be set up etc to make even more money so players would not benefit in any way apart from lining their own pockets. Guest optimistic nit
Another nail in the coffin of a once great cup competition. Travelling away in the Cup with thousands of supporters is an unbeatable football experience and no doubt soon a thing of the past I'm sad, angry but not surprised by this. Its all about money and bowing down to the power and vested interest of the Premier League, pushing their vastly over hyped and over rated product that becomes more predictable and uncompetitive each season. The cup competitons represent our only realistic chance of a trophy, because we are not about to challenge for the Premier League anytime soon or any time at all with Ashley in charge. All we will be left with soon is the weekly monotony and boredom of the Premier League with nothing to look forward to apart from the yearly slog and scrape to avoid relegation. The FA Cup needs a higher profile, not a lower one and I for one would take winning the FA Cup over Premier League survival anytime how does removing replays lower the fa cups profile? TheGuv
Very sad if this happens. The oldest and greatest competiton in the world should try and stay the way it is. Fair enough scrapping the possibility of 10 replays etc but to get rid of it all together is sad. I can see the for viewpoint but the game is going to keep changing and one day it won't be the sport we knew:/

A thing of the past because the competition will be so devalued that eventually people won't travel away in numbers anymore, especially to see an under strength team, and who can blame them
Guest Antigalican
Pathetic! Capello says jump and the FA asks how high? If they want to reduce fixture congestion the best way would be to get rid of these ridiculous International weekends where the entire program gets cancelled. Colocho
Don't agree, they can be a good source of revenue and/or a good day out for non-league or lower league clubs.
ohmelads
I think they should be scrapped. Football is about drama and extra time and penalties provide great drama. As it is now, you hold a big team for 90 minutes for financial rewards of a replay. It's bullsh*t. Change it to one game and suddenly these small teams are 30 minutes from a shootout, and can knock out the big guns instead of getting dicked in a replay a week later. It'll benefit the smaller clubs IMO, and create more nailbiting/cliffhanger endings.
Disco
Lookslike they've finally got round to killing off the FA Cup as we know it. Wankers. @RorySmithTimes 22m22 minutes ago No more FA Cup replays and turning it into a midweek competition: the PL/FA determined to ease fixture congestion - http://thetim.es/1U4pWqZ http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/fa-league-cups/fa-cup-premier-league-and-fa-consider-scrapping-replays-due-to-crowded-fixture-list-a6876246.html http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/fa-cup-replays-could-scrapped-7378639

AyeDubbleYoo
I would make the cups optional TBH, allow people to opt out. Clearly people don't want to be in it, stop them from spoiling it for everyone else.

Village Idiot
Dunno... I see the cup de-evolving into a borefest where the smaller side tries to battle out a draw in order to play for the pens. Current system motivates smaller sides to come out of the blocks aggressively and try to ambush an overconfident/weakened big side. We've got loads of entertaining games over the years, thanks to this.
Interpolic
Think they should just deal with the "fixture congestion" and shut the fuck up tbh. Don't the likes of Messi and Ronaldo play about 60 games a year? Don't like this, feels like it's pandering to the likes of Allardyce and Pardew, but then again they'll probably be gutted as it's one less excuse for them. Guest firetotheworks
Just get rid of the league cup man. Exactly. No one really gives a shit about that anymore anyway. It's absolutely ludicrous anyway, the top teams have more depth and strength in depth than ever to the extent that they can field full teams just for the F.A Cup that would wipe the floor with lower teams and that's still not enough of an advantage for them. Get fucked man.

Village Idiot
I'll say it; I hate games in hand, so I'll welcome the FA Cup becoming a midweek competition. Games in hand are a greater evil.
Leazes_End_Mag
This and the planned revamp of the Champs League shows that the smaller clubs don't have a chance in football anymore. Biggest clubs are calling the shots.
