Hudson
Why sign a player in Jan, that we had already agreed to sign at the end of the season. Not that i'm un happy about the signing just seams strange considering his injury and the fact nobody has a clue how it will effecct him. Now we have spent this money, will ther be any more ? IIRC We had only agreed to sign him at the end of the season considering he'd played 25 games. He had his leg broke, which means he's unlikely to play 25 games considering there's only 19 games of the season left. Obviously the little that was seen from him was enough to impress therefore surely worth the risk? I don't disagree with any of that, but the deal to buy him could have been re arranged for the purchase at the end of season. Like it was but without the 25 game clause. The point i'm trying to make is why purchase him now, when the money could have been used else where to strenghten the squad.
Cajun
I don't see the problem, if we were planning to spend in January this would have no effect. I am pretty sure Ashley has more than £5m available IF he wants to spend it.
Zero
Hudson, that's a gamble. If HBA shows that he can have a full recovery and play well again, very likely other clubs will offer a higher price and Marseille would have no obligation to sell him to us. The same problem goes for HBA's personal preference. If clubs like Arsenal joins the races, we must be the loser.

joeyt
So if we paid £2mil for his loan deal, do we now give them an extra £3mil for it to be £5mil, or do we end up paying £7mil overall for him?
Dr Venkman
Stu in "haha look how stupid everyone is" post shocker there's a massive difference between being stupid and being wrong, the most intelligent people of all time are consistently wrong. as long as you're not dogmatic that's how you further your knowledge. i'm sure he knows that though. Yup, well said Dr Venkman it's how you handle the setbacks that show your character. Obviously, getting all defensive about your earlier comments is probably not an indication that you're willing to change your mind if events go against you
JH
It's just this, pull posts up from weeks ago just to show how wrong people were, attitude. Aye, because when Hughton was sacked and Pardew hired, we should have been jumping for joy because it was nailed on that Ben Arfa would be staying... Not at all, but in the same breath it wasn't the kiss of death to the Ben Arfa transfer that you proclaimed it to be. Doom-mongering of the worst kind. It's more of a surprise that you seem genuinely upset that someone would highlight it before the month is even out. There's nowt wrong with having a steady view of things all NUFC, but apparently this makes you an "Ashley arse slurper" (to coin a phrase from our resident forum bawbag). Dr Venkman
i thought we'd never see him in black and white again after the injury to be honest so this is all a bonus for me. just wish he was being managed by someone i think is any good. JH
Not at all, but in the same breath it wasn't the kiss of death to the Ben Arfa transfer that you proclaimed it to be. Aye, because I'm me, Kaizero, MichaelNUFC, RKO, Pilko and Wullie. No, I was wrong. It wasn't the kiss of death is was proclaimed to be. Doesn't mean I regret saying what I did at the time - my feelings were just. Doom-mongering of the worst kind. It's more of a surprise that you seem genuinely upset that someone would highlight it before the month is even out. I'm not 'genuinely upset', I'm just disappointed that it has been resorted to again - people get things wrong and say things in the heat of the moment. The last thing people should do is bring up posts from the past because it's pointless. I'm sure your posts could be brought up and show how wrong you've been at times, but nobody does it. There's nowt wrong with having a steady view of things all NUFC, but apparently this makes you an "Ashley arse slurper" (to coin a phrase from our resident forum bawbag). Of course there isn't. But at the time, the current owner had just made two incredibly poor decisions - the way luck was balancing, there was little chance we were going to get anything positive out of it. Guest BooBoo
Wa doooooomed! Seriously though, we lose to Man City and Spurs and the sky is falling. Even Chicken Licken would have facepalmed some of the post match comments on Tuesday.
Dr Venkman
i'd agree with that like, not sure it has to rubbed in people's faces unless they're stoical in an NE5 way. just serves to make people wary of giving their opinion in future which is counter-productive on a forum imo. could be argued it'll make them think more before forming an opinion but then you'd just end up with everyone occupying the middle ground and if politics has taught us anything, that's boring as fuck. Guest ObiChrisKenobi
I can understand the comments against Spurs as we really did nowt in that game. Team was flat. Tactics/Subs were shocking.

We were OK for the most part, couple of defending mistakes which Spurs took full advantage of and Peter Lovekrands being on the pitch - they cost us a point. Such little drive, though perhaps that was more to do with Barton having an off game, mixed with my own belief we'd go and attack.

In my experience, you go to an in form Spurs with the mindset of trying to knick a point and you lose. Go for the win, don't be afraid and you might just knick a point or who knows. At worst you lose but at least you had a go.

Fair response not sure I agree with the last bit though, I guess that comes down to how much faith you want to put in the owner - as I don't see any other realistic prospect for anyone else to run the club, I've no choice but to put my belief in Ashley wanting the club to be successful (even if it's just for the reason that he's protecting his own investment or setting it up nicely for a windfall sale). With that in mind, I'm looking for the positives in each move, rather than dwelling on the negatives whenever something happens. Similarly, at the match I'll get on with cheering on the team (even Lovenkrands) while I'm in the ground. I suppose it all depends on what you believe a 'supporter' should be/should do i'd agree with that like, not sure it has to rubbed in people's faces unless they're stoical in an NE5 way. just serves to make people wary of giving their opinion in future which is counter-productive on a forum imo. could be argued it'll make them think more before forming an opinion but then you'd just end up with everyone occupying the middle ground and if politics has taught us anything, that's boring as fuck. At worst you lose but at least you had a go. Thought we battled well all game and looked to try and get forward, we just happened to miss two of our most important players going forward (Enrique overlapping Jonas on the left, Nolan linking up midfield/attack) which resulted in us launching balls towards Carroll's head. You're right about Barton, almost every pass he tried was overhit or a fraction off-target. Lo and behold he sticks a quick free-kick to one of our players unmarked in the box and it's Peter Lovenkrands. Spurs score their second instead of us equalising. JH
Similarly, at the match I'll get on with cheering on the team (even Lovenkrands) while I'm in the ground. I suppose it all depends on what you believe a 'supporter' should be/should do Exactly that. Doesn't mean I won't display some murmurings of discontent at some of the decisions that he has made. I can also see that there is no viable alternative at the moment to Ashley. But again, I won't just accept him as a decent owner because of that though. Just like my opinions on Nolan, I don't improve my opinion of someone just because there is nobody better behind them in the running.
