David Icke - Son of God
Clearly Anita is the best option, but I don't think Tiote is a write-off. In the right situations, and if he recovers a bit of form, he's a useful player. He's not terrible, he just needs to sharpen up. He's not a write off, but he should be a firm second choice behind Anita. I worry Pardew will start to fuck around to try and accommodate him. Lotus
Hope he takes a long, hard look at himself and realises what he needs to do to get back in the team. Competition for places is good for everyone.
Ronaldo
We've now actually got a modicum of competion for places at CB, CM and ST. It doesn't feel right.
Mole_Toonfan
No, because fortunately even Pardew has more sense than to start him these days. I'm not convinced that is the case yet, need to see more before i commit to the idea that Pardew has realised that Anita should start over him. ExiledGeordie
Think its a combination of being found out a bit and being coached into something he's not. Thing is when he came he kept things simple and that was why he was so effective. I remember him being hassled by the Arsenal midfield and still being neat and tidy with the ball so no reason he can't get back to that. No was should he be in the side ahead of Anita at the moment though, he deserves his 1st team place.

You can't just have physicality in your locker to cut the mustard as a starting top league midfielder. He can pass (simply) when under no real pressure / has his back to the opposition and can run / mark. That's really it. Somebody like Gattuso had so much more to his game apart from sole tenacity. No wonder the Dutch fans thought we were idiots for treating him like a 'demi god' initially. Mind, to his credit, he played like a king vs Liverpool in Pardews first game and he's been decent against the other bigger sides too, but I think his days here should be ending soon. buzza
It's been mentioned above but I think that with players around him now actually moving into space and taking up "positive" positions he shouldn't have problems distributing the ball quickly. I wouldn't swap him for anita though until we are two goals up and need that defensive "force" in the middle, I prefer Anita's rythym and consistency of good passing. I do feel for Tiote and some of his performances last year as I can remember me getting irate at the lack of movement around him and people "hiding".(can remember shouting at telly for other to pull their fingers out and offer him a pass option) really exacerbated his downfall. Hope he comes good and competes for that middle berth tbh... can only make us better for it!
buzza
P.S. Still feel at times that Anita gets knocked off the ball too easily and should contest a little bit "harder" (old school in me coming out)

Which Dutch fans? No need to rewrite history; he was fantastic when he first came in, and I for one back him to refind that level.
Ronaldo
He was 'fantastic' when we wanted someone simply to protect the defence and merely avoid relegation. Before his weaknesses had been discovered by the rest of the league.
Lotus
No, he had plenty of good games in the season we came 5th. You look silly saying otherwise. Hope he adapts and improves as it will benefit everyone.
Ronaldo
He had a fair few against a couple of big sides and when teams didn't press him. Even in good form he'll never be what we need to progress. You play an out and out defensive midfielder under two basic conditions and a side looking to climb the table isn't one of them, imo. Taylor Swift
Yeah, im with Ronaldo. (again)
mrmojorisin75
you've not been saying he's not what we need to progress, you've been arguing that he's got no chance of ever becoming a passable PL midfielder again we all know he's not what we need to progress ffs full of it
Ronaldo
At his best he's not what we need to progress. In the form he's shown over the last 18 months or so he should be back on the bench in Holland.
mrmojorisin75
so you accept with a functioning team around him and some coaching he could make an adequate PL midfielder good
Ronaldo
At his best he'd do just fine in a team with no ambition, yeah.

Ronaldo
If his best form was here and we didn't have much better players anyway.
Unbelievable
Plenty of players have had a bad period coinciding with Tiote's loss of form, i.e. last season mainly. Not sure why he needs singling out. There's no doubt in my mind a Tiote at his best is a valuable addition to any squad in the PL.
Ronaldo
He needs singling out because he's a brainless idiot that costs us points and contributes nothing in a footballing sense. The rest generally do.
nobby_solano
What doesn't help his cause is that his reputation precedes him and that players and referees know this, hence last season against *Everton when Fellaini hit the deck about 3 yards away from Tiote and the referee looks up and sees Tiote in the vicinity so automatically gives a free kick which subsequently is scored from. * - this is what i remember happening, don't remember Tiote actually putting in a daft challenge (on this occasion) He does fly into challenges recklessly far too often though
mrmojorisin75
context means nothing to tiote's form apparently - he's to be judged in total isolation - everyone take note
