Teasy
£5m for Nolan, no way, but £5m for Nolan and Smith... now I'm tempted
Matt
Good point, if there's any truth in it, which I doubt as the source is bollocks. There's no way it's true. Smith's wages alone for a season are reportedly £3m, effectively making it an £8m deal. Ashley would snatch their hands off I reckon. So soon in the window? Players of Nolan's quality are not going to be queuing up to join WHU this summer- we can afford to wait and see what happens with Parker and make the most of the situation. I have no doubt that if they were to bid £5-7m and it was deadline day, we'd have taken it.

Guest sicko2ndbest
Someone goes to 5mil he is gone! I think it will break his heart He may still run his contract down and stay for 2years I'll be honest I don't mind. It's good money for someone who offers little in general play. ToonImms
I hope he stays, I know he's generally dogshite but he's the only midfield player in our team that can score goals. Plus I have no faith in our board to actually replace him. I'd be suprised if we managed to sign Gervinho, Gameiro or N'zogbia tbh, maybe I'm just pessimistic. . . TRon
So far a championship club and a small town premier team are reported to be in for him. Sounds about right he could definitely do a job for these type of clubs - win promotion or ensure top flight safety with a few handy goals.

Thats my feeling too and seems that we are trying too get the high wage earners from a few years ago off the books and take away the player power element that helped us out of the championship and easily secured our premiership status ,might seem logical too Ashley but madness for team moral imho,Smith will be no loss but Barton and Nolan make the players united . Ridman
Do you really care about the money? Ashley will put the money in his pocket and spend them in a casino. I rather keep our captain. Sad how people are $$$$$$$ Is it true that he wants a 4-5 year contract? If true then we should most definitely get rid. Nolan is turning 29 this month and is probably among the highest earners at the club. I don´t want to pay him 40k/week (or whatever he is earning) til his mid thirties and I highly doubt he'll be as effective in a few years time, we'd just end up with another Geremi/Smith/Butt. In addition he can´t play as a central midfielder in a 4-4-2 formation without getting slaughtered. New ST Jonas Arfa Barton Cabaye Tiote Would you swap any of those players for Nolan? I´d still love it if Nolan would stay on and be a squad player. Doesn´t he have 2 years remaining of his contract? So what´s the rush, tell him to wait until next summer and if he isn´t ready to that, sell.
