Dare I say "The Pardew effect" ? both him and Jose plus Simpson have all seemed to have sorted some of the iffy parts of their play.

I think cause Pardew likes the fullbacks to get higher up the pitch, Jonas has a bit more space to do his thing. He's not as off balance trying to simultaneously skin 2 players and cross unlike before and it's evident in his new found accuracy.

I don't think Simpson's particularly improved, he's been as solid as he's been all season imo. Jonas and Jose have definitely taken it to another level of piss-takery though.

No you can't say that. The casino buddy of Llambias has no effect on this bunch of lads. Ok?

Jonas was brilliant tonight. Am i right in thinking both assists were crossed with his weaker foot? I know people get frustrated with him because he isn't a traditional English winger, but personally i love the style of player he is. He always plays better with Lovenkrands upfront, maybe because Lovenkrands is willing to make intelligent runs unlike a certain Andy Carroll. I hope when Ben Arfa comes back Gutierrez isn't dropped, i think the link up play between Enrique, Jonas and Ben Arfa could be something special.

Very good point re: Lovenkrands.

Jonas looks twice the player with him on the pitch, and some of his assists to Lovenkrands in the Championship were glorious.

Could well be that we lack an intelligent striker like Lovenkrands who also has the physical attributes of someone like Ranger or Best.

Bestykrands would be an amazing player.

He was absolutely superb last night, and when he's on his game his qualities bring a lot to the team.

He's got everthing else, so if he can just continue to develop his crossing as he seems to be doing he'll be a top winger.

As have been said, if/when he adds end product, he'll be a hell of a player. He did that yesterday; fantastic performance. Shame Cannonballhead made it back to get a touch on the ball when he made his run in the middle of the second half.

Who the f*** ever said he can't cross?

Mm well people who have watched him mishit cross after cross for 2 and a half seasons maybe... just because he got an assist yesterday, it doesn't suddenly make him become the worlds best crosser now.. does it?

So he puts a couple of great crosses in one game, and now he's a brilliant crosser? Sorry mate, but he needs to it consistently for me to change my opinion of him.

Same with me, though this is a step in the right direction.

Agreed, anybody can fluke a few crosses now and again, I've seen him time and time again when he has loads of time to cross it in he balloons it over the top.

But what i do like is that it doesn't deter him and he continues to cross it and cross it nice and early sometimes even with his weaker left wheareas some players would probably never cross with their weaker foot.

I think the issue with him is he outdoes himself. For most of the time he's been here he's been doing most of the running for the team and to put in a cross at the end off that solo run (surrounded by totally immobile teammates), it's hard to put a cross in. I remember in the championship he put in quite a few good crosses. I think his technique in striking the ball to cross is good, it's just when he tries to outdo himself by doing all the running for the team that he doesn't have the extra effort at the end to get his cross off.

He's an enigma for sure. When HBA gets back it'll be interesting to see what pardew does with him, does he play HBA in place of Jonas, or just behind a single striker. Surely we can't move Barton from the right, Nolan and Tiote aren't moving in the middle. Then you add the likes of Ireland and Gosling to the mix, we certainly got options in there.

Why shouldn't we move Barton from the right? As things stand we attack down the left twice as much as we do down the right and Barton really is quite one-dimensional as a winger.
