Hibernian talk to Magpies' Colin Calderwood

By Brian McLauchlin

Newcastle assistant manager Colin Calderwood has been interviewed for the vacant managerial post at Hibernian.

Calderwood was also interviewed for the job last time around but lost out on that occasion to John Hughes.

The 45-year-old former Scotland defender managed Northampton Town and Nottingham Forest before joining Newcastle in January 2009.

He is currently assistant manager at St James Park, working with his Tottenham Hotspur colleague, Chris Hughton.

Stranraer-born Calderwood began his playing career with Mansfield Town before spells with Swindon Town, Tottenham, Aston Vila, Forest and Notts County.

As a manager, he led Northampton to promotion from League Two and Forest to the Championship.

He and Hughton led Newcastle to promotion to the Premier League in England last season.

Hughes departed Hibs earlier this month after a poor start to the season.

Wonder who we'd replace him with. Pedro?

The Hughton-Calderwood partnership has done quite well for us. He seems to play an important role, so it would be a shame to see him leave.

Apart from the signing of James Perch.

Yeah apart from that. But Hughton was allowed Leon Best,  so its 1-1.

It was only ever a matter of time...

Not too bothered about him leaving, though it'll be interesting to see what adjustments are made to the coaching time to fill the void.

I hear Nicky Butt is studying for his coaching badges... :shifty:

Hughton, Barron, Beardsley, Stone, Joyce.

that is weak.  Hughton appears to be the most experienced there by a considerable distance...

joyce has been coaching the kids for some time i think and beardley has a fair bit of coaching behind him

Barron has nearly 20 years of coaching experience under his belt too.
