Kante has to be in that team over Golovin for me, he hasn't put a foot wrong and France wouldn't be in the final without the solidity he brings to that defence imo. Other than that I pretty much agree.

Aye, it has him and Trippier I was debating on most. I guess Kante being the absolute business is just par for the course these days.

Someone said, if Kante played for Belgium or Brazil instead, it would be them in the final - I agree with that.

I'd probably have 5 in midfield. I think in the second half against Brazil and the France game, Lukaku was awful. He had Dante 1v1 for 45 minutes and did nothing. Was great in that first half though.

Mandzukic had a superb assist in the QF, scored the winner in the semi and his all-round player is always better than Lukaku's.

Likewise, I thought Marcelo was brilliant in the second half against Belgium. And when he played, he was a real danger with Neymar down that left.

Quietly, Lovren's been the business too.

If Casemiro hadn't been suspended we'd probably make the final.

My team of the tournament would probably be

Subasic

Trippier - Silva - Godin - Hernandez

Modric - Kante

MBappé Griezemann Hazard

Kane

Honourable mention to all the finalists + Golovin, Casemiro, Courtois, Pickford, Cavani, Mina, Cheryshev and Lozano. Lukaku was great for 45minutes, otherwise I thought he was pretty much what we're used too.

Who's Dante?

 Dante hasn't played for Brazil since the last World Cup.

 And even if he meant Miranda, that's fucking hard on Lukaku as Miranda had a very good World Cup and is a very good defender.

Nee Kane, Disco?  Not even a mention?

Anah his goals have all been pens, tap-ins and one fluke but he's going to win the golden boot.  Also put in an amazing centre forward performance against Colombia and has generally performed pretty well imo.

Yeah, he's been decent. Was a bit of a let down v Sweden/Croatia though which probably clouded my view. Outstanding v Colombia and Tunisia though I agree, unplayable.

TBF there's not really been a stand out striker as such given Mbappe has played wide and as has been mentioned Lukaku hasn't been that good.

Disco hates the English. Down to his Turkish, immigrant looking skin tone.

Wew - calm down Michael Fabricunt.

Aye I meant Miranda.

Marcelo did his ‘I’m not defending’ thing that entire second half.  Lukaku was in that space Marcelo vacated. A number of times he was 1v1 with Miranda - did absolutely nothing. Didn’t even hold it up.  Kept giving it away.  Miranda’s been an excellent player but a quick, powerful player of Lukaku’s ability should have the beating of an old CB pushing up high with no support from the LB.

The definitive ST performances in the KOs has come from Cavani.  Maybe Mandzukic.

Would definitely have Cavani above Kane. Kane's goals were all shite bar maybe the winner against Tunisia. Strikers in general have been poor though

Same time Cavani was rather average for most parts as well. Only against Portugal that he had a really good game.

Thought he was pretty dangerous feeding off scraps in the group tbh. Would have Lukaku above Kane too but as I said it's not been a great tournament for strikers

Mbappe is odds on favourite ain’t he? Kante first defensive player to win since 1930.

You’re probably right. He’s gotta be a shoe-in for best young player at least.

Personally I’d still pick either Kante or Modric, they’ve both been outstanding and are so integral to their respective teams.

Mine would be:

Pickford

Trippier Varane Godin Meunier (aye, I know he plays on the right)

Kante Modric

M'Bappe Greizmann Cherychev

Kane

Subs: Lloris, Mina, Inui, Hazard, Cavani

FWIW Lukaku wouldn't be anywhere near mine, as usual he was far too inconsistent.

He was as consistent as Kane, and I'd give him the nod considering his best performance was versus Brazil and Kane's was versus Colombia. Both had awful semi finals. Haven't seen enough of Croatia really but Mandzukic could be a good shout

There’s been nee standout good LBs like. I was going to Vrsaljko there but I’m stickler for the deets on shit like this. I just picked Hernandez as he got to be the final but he’s probs been France’s worst starter.
