I doubt that decision was taken 12 days ago myself. Outside of that, there really isnt much of a solid argument for spending lots on a striker at this point. Scoring goals has not been our issue this season & Ben Arfa hasnt even been given a go yet. Outside of that Best was part of a partnership that got us up to 3rd regardless of current form.

I dont see them seeing this as the place they need to spend & i dont much blame them.

15 days ago Maiga had a medical with us, 12 days ago it was announced that the transfer was off because of a failed medical.  Best was the non-scoring portion of the partnership that got us to 3rd.

As i said, given Ba's form i doubt Maiga became the priority he once was. I also doubt the severity of any issues he has.

Best is the reason for much of Ba's earlier form. He either directly or indirectly assisted many of his goals. Either way, i imagine theyll see him as a solid bench option at the least. Scoring goals has not been our issue.

They've been workin on maiga for a long time, we wont bring anyone in unless it's on the cheap unless it's someone we've been working on a long time, we'll bring a defender in most liely, we'll probably not do as well as we could, but our policy is what it is and its why we generally for the most part now bring in very good players for average player money.

How many of our summer transfers are very good players?  I would say 2 have worked out as being very good, 3 have a lot to do before even being classed as good.

How many have been proved to be shit

Definitely 2.  The other 3 have potential, 1 more so than the other two, but for differing reasons.

What room does do we have for another top striker? He doesnt want Ben Arfa on the wing & Ba is playing quality. Theyve simply changed their minds over needing one. Ba's form is whats done it.

If we sign a striker, itll be someone whos willing to sit on the bench.

Why were we apparently going to buy Maiga then?

to plaqy 2 up front if we want and more importantly an upgrade on best/shola/loven.

We still have room for another striker then.

That depends on if we're going to persist with Best/Ameobi alongside Ba, or if we play Ben Arfa behind him.

Why would that have changed since our last target failed a medical?

Because if we'd signed Maiga, chances are we'd have played Ba-Maiga up front, now we haven't, it's down to Ba-Best/Shola or a change of system to Ba-HBA.

The way I see it is that, had we signed Maiga, it would have seen us changing the system to 4-3-3. Ba would have been upfront on his own with Ben Arfa and Maiga as supporting forwards (think this was Pardew's plan in pre-season until Ben Arfa got injured).

Though for me atm, I definitely prefer the Ba-Ben Arfa partnership upfront. Even if we had Maiga/a new striker on our books, Ba-HBA would still be my preferred attacking option. But one thing's for sure, Maiga would have been an upgrade on Best/Shola/Lovenkrands.

Combination of the amount of work put in, 6 million not being a huge fee, his desperation to join & play for us making it easier for us to potentially bench him in future? Who knows.

Seems dodgy that they supposedly had other specialists instantly do tests following ours & they confirmed him to be fine.

fairly sure if we pulled out on mediacal grounds they could take legal action if they could prove we were lying.

What would be your priority?

strong flexable defender, comfortable at centre half and full back, maybe even a cheaper back up (or loan) for there aswell.

if everyone were fit i'd have been looking for the third central midfielder to go into the first team alongside tiote and cabaye.  O0

How so? We could say we're not happy with anything, but as far as I'm aware we haven't commented at all.

Pardew fears Newcastle remain vulnerable to another megabucks bid for the likes of Ba, Cheik Tiote or Yohan Cabaye.

He added: "You can say you don't want any last-minute business but you're just as vulnerable in this latest transfer window to a sovereign state coming in and giving you an oil well.

"Every Premier League manager is — apart from Roberto Mancini at Manchester City."

“The Andy Carroll sale did us no favours, so we will not be accepting that last-minute stuff any more,” said the Newcastle manager, whose side will face Carroll, along with fellow former Toon stars Jose Enrique and Craig Bellamy, at Anfield tomorrow night.

“But as much as you can say you don’t want last-minute business, you are still vulnerable to a sovereign state coming in and giving you an oil well!

“So I’m never going to say never.

“The point we are making is that if you are wanting to do business with us, then give us a chance. That’s basically the message we are giving.”
