A squad in urgent need of strengthening

We have loads of forwards who just aren't up to it.

No way would I be prepared to rely on any of them for any amount of time.

Precisely, that's why bringing in another squad player would be absolutely pointless.

Oh right, good point.  More to do with my wording in previous posts.

This striker needs to be a 'first teamer' then.

back up LB, first team striker, first team winger in that order of priority.

And that's what I highly doubt will happen, considering Pardew's comments and the number of seemingly unsellable strikers we already have on the books. Can't see Ashley advocating bringing in another striker on decent wages, as a starter surely would be.

Striker please. Keane will do for me..  :shifty:

Let's keep random speculation out of this.

So you've started a thread about strengthening the squad but you're not happy about people speculating as to which positions and players we need to strengthen?

Odd.

Unless its a loan or daft cheap fee I agree. Anyone we do buy will be out of contract at the end of the season I predict.

Happy to speculate about the areas we need to strengthen.  Totally against throwing random players names into posts, yes.

Seems obvious.

We still have Gosling and Ben Arfa to come back in. The most important thing is to get someone up front asap. If Keane is available on loan then we should go for that option immediately. If we signed someone on loan then we could also sign another forward on a permanent basis, while also spending here and there on better squad players.

Only the first sentence will actually happen though.

Eh?? I think we need a striker ?!?!?

I agree that we need a striker.  However, I dislike random speculation.

Might as well lock the thread then as you've got what you wanted.

It's not realistic to expect all our poor players  to go in one window, it will take at least 2 to get most gone and I see Smith being a situation like Butt's with his contract just going down.

Speculation? He is simply saying he would like us to try for Keane ???

Now that's a bit over the top.  But you intend it to be so whatever.

Think I just needed to vent and make sure that everyone else was still on the right wavelength in regards to the absolute disarray the squad is in.

Reckon we can keep this open to discuss our progress throughout January, mind.

I'm a bit puzzled that Ferguson isn't getting a look in at all.

Pointless thread?  Hell no.

I've already outlined what I wanted, and at this point the thread has produced.

Unless somebody has a different perspective there is no point adding to it at this stage.  However, it will prove useful throughout January - as I've already explained.

If we can bring in a few loans or cheap buys in January that improve the depth I'll be happy. We should survive with that. Then it's up to Ashley, it's painfully obvious where the squad needs helps, if he's willing to spend, we can have a decent side and a chance at a top half finish.
