That's how almost all transfers work though.

Not with NUFC, we pay everything upfront.  One thing Ashley hated and rightfully so.  We still owed for Emre transfer in 2008.

Massive risk for Villa if you think about it.

Put all your eggs in one basket, say Bent got injured and missed the rest of the season. They go down and owe upwards of £12 mil in the championship.

Fair play to their owner tbh, backed Houllier here and obviously willing to spend big to stay up.

Makoun is also supposed to be a good player who can help the team out though. So all your eggs in two baskets really.

True, but why would you throw 20+ million at Houllier when you wouldn't give it to O'Neill? Bizzarre if you ask me.

Aye, but he can't look at that now, he chose Houlllier and rightly or wrongly, is backing him to the hilt.

That's already been said.

O'Neill could not be trusted with money.  Spunked big amounts on some average players and had a ridiculous wage bill of players he bought but wouldn't play.

For someone who has scored consistently over the past 5 years (bar perhaps his first season at Spurs), £18m seems about right. Not that 'right' prices exist, it's merely relatively subjective.

I think £15M would of been more around what he is worth.  So they are not massively paying over the odd's.  Tbf to Villa, they created a shitload of chances yesterday (hit the bar 4 times), so getting a good finisher is what they need.

Reading through their main Bent thread at RTG, f***ing love how they all laugh at the OP. Classic.

TBH we would do the same.
