Carver would be the best appointment this lot could make.

The club has to be relegated - once, possible even twice, before Ashley will walk away. It's hard to accept but that's the way it is. To get our club back, our club has to be broken.

I think it's pretty clear they don't want Carver, and are hoping to avoid asking him to do a caretaker job till the end of the season. It might just come to that though.

If they don't want him then they would pay the going rate for someone of potential quality. They obviously haven't so far so that would suggest they are quite happy with him.

Thing is, there's nothing more brutally indicative about a club's ambition than it's managerial appointment. Mongish fans will spend forever arguing about good players and bad players, players who could get better, but if you're hiring a transparently crap manager with no record of anything but failure - and without the nous to placate and deceive fans verbally post-match - most supporters with a semblance of pride in NUFC will just stop going.

Spot on.

Fingers crossed.

If we get Carver, we get Carver. It'll last a few months at the most anyway, because we're pretty much guaranteed to nosedive down the league and then he'll have to go. Pardew was the biggest stumbling block, everything else is either success or failure imo. Pardew championed and aimed for mediocrity, I'd like to think that most other managers aren't like that.

But they never pay the going rate for anyone, they've more as well admitted it's their policy to look for value. So I could quite well see them try to bring in Garde on the condition that he will work with the existing staff in the hope that they will quit of their own account and then Garde might be allowed to recruit his own staff.

Looking forward to his little stint in charge, should inject some exciting relegation threat into the equation.

Would mean we've got something to play for in survival, instead of the monotony of midtable, or the disappointment of trying for Europe and falling short

Ashley will be creaming himself, pockets the bonuses this season. Flog Sissoko, get a new manager for nothing in the summer and we stay up, plus the money he got for Pardew... Guess who wins again.
