Just read up on that 2006-07 season. I remember us being turboshit in the league but pretty good in Europe. Martins got 17 goals in all comps that year, Sibierski 8, Shola 5 (constantly injured), even Luque got 2 in Europe. Pretty decent return from our strikeforce. I will never not be annoyed when thinking about the AZ Alkmaar game though. Fucking Louis Van Gaal, think Dyer hit the post when through on goal to win it for us as well. Useless cunt.

When you look at it, that team was never gonna do anything in the league so overall we didn't actually do that bad

Carling Cup Quarter-finals

Some of the players we had playing for us that season...Srnicek, Ramage, Huntington, Edgar, Onyewu, Pattison, O'Brien, Faye, Chopra, Moore, Sibierski. My God that was rank.

Chopra was sold to Cardiff in the summer.

So many things were shit about that night + the fallout:

- Squad lost confidence for the rest of the season

- Roeder banished Bramble then went back on it

- Huntington hung out to dry and given 2/10 by the Chronicle despite being exposed by Carr's late skive

- Roeder admitting before the game he was looking for a 0-0

- The marking on the second goal

- Roeder bringing on an unfit Emre and leaving Milner on the bench

- N'Zogbia given about 6 minutes to turn the tie

- Dyer's miss of one of the easiest chances ever

one of the all time lows.

I see your Alkmaar, and raise you a Sporting Lisbon.

I fold! Big Al said the loss against Lisbon was the his toughest moment on the pitch. Especially because the opponent in the cup final was manageable. I still remember that moment. I actually thought to myself when Dyer was substituted: We can actually loose this...

I was living in France at the time, rang my dad to find out the score and was 1-0 up, rang him about an hour later and it was the first time I'd heard him almost in tears at what happened. Awful night, made worse about a month later because in the student accommodation I was staying in were a load of Russians who were ecstatic when their team won it in the end.

And I was in Newcastle that year  Never saw Lisbon as that big of a blow at the time... probably because of how we capitulated at almost the same stage a year earlier. Remember the home leg, Milner missed an easy close range chance to make it 2-0 late on. After that, I never felt confident we would survive the away leg.

Shame, that yellow kit was class.

I've got a memory of Parker putting the ball in the net that night, it was disallowed of course, but my warped head is telling me it should have stood.

Yeah, wrongly disallowed, but i was done with Roeder after that night - as were the majority i think. Lisbon was absolutely devastating but AZ was the angriest i've ever been. Alkmaar were actually the top scorers in world football at the time, and Roeder went there looking for a 0-0. As he had actually stated beforehand. Infuriating.

I remember the first goal where Taylor just decided to not before cutting the cross out.
