Shayno
8 - Harper Solid save from a strong shot by Zigic, only an awkward punch where he had time to hold the ball stopped him from a faultless game. 8 - Simpson Everything he needed to defensively he did. Only remember Bentley being able to cut in and shoot once or twice the whole game. 7.5 - Williamson Kept Zigic pretty quiet but thought he rushed has passing too often tonight. 7.5 - Colo Didn't lose Martins and kept a good line all game. However on set peices he let Johnson have two free headers on goal that fortunately weren't converted. Has to do better. 7.5 - Enrique Lost possession being too cool a few times tonight but otherwise did well. 7.5 Barton's set pieces weren't fantastic tonight and I can't remember any moment of real quality. was an experienced head when we grinded the game out. 7.5 Tiote wasn't as involved as usual as it looked like Birmingham tried to play around him. Good whenever he got his foot on the ball and did plenty of running. 7 Nolan Rarely saw the ball and I can only remember one occasion he got the ball in the opposition's box. 8.5 Gutierrez was fantastic tonight with two good assists.. Was always an outlet for a pass and I really felt we dominated the left side of play. 8 Best won lots of headers tonight and was a physical presence the entire game. I was taken off guard by how well he did in the air against a good CB pairing. Still looks sloppy at getting behind defenders with the ball played on the deck however. 8 Lovenkrands Well taken goal and his speed was an asset tonight. 6.5 Ranger Came on and did ok. Found it annoying on one occasion towards the end where he seemingly took his eye off the ball as Barton ran down the wing meaning he wasn't in a good position when Joey crossed it in. Needs to work on his positioning
ponsaelius
Just got back. Birmingham were another dross team in a big group of dross teams. They were truly shocking. Still a good performance and a very satisfying away victory to make the journey back pleasant enough
Doug
Great performance by our lot. We passed them of the muddy park. No passengers tonight. Of particular note was Best winning everything in the air, we dominated the midfield and got at them down both flanks well. the big away end was impressively packed and noisy for a cold wet Tuesday night. I ended up on my arse in the aisle so great was the crowd surge for the second goal much to the amusement of all around, great fun for a change. David28
Very important win that imo. Surprised we scored 2 goals considering our striking options.
Jayson
They hadnt lost at home for like a year had they till Everton beat them this season? Needed an og in that game to pull them out to, since then only Arsenal have done it. Now us. Great result really.
Dr Venkman
nice to see the usual europe posts after a win its all well and good saying a few additions will see us in europe next season, but we need a squad. excellent result though, lovenkrands scored? mrmojorisin75
class, heads so up my arse never even realised this was happening good shit, on the brink of survival - in fact we're almost at the point where we can start looking to rack up as many points as possible rather than look over our shoulder almost
Stu
7 Nolan Rarely saw the ball and I can only remember one occasion he got the ball in the opposition's box. 8 Lovenkrands Well taken goal and his speed was an asset tonight. Wow. It still amazes me how myopic some people can be Our Fans: 8 - Had something to cheer about, heard the "Just Can't Get Enough" ditty about Nolan and the mackems which was funny. I couldn't make out what they were singing? What was it? One time Kevin Nolan put the ball in the mackem net He just can't get enough, he just can't get enough Two times Kevin Nolan put the ball in the mackem net He just can't get enough, he just can't get enough Three times Kevin Nolan put the ball in the mackem net He just can't seem to get enough of it DOO-DOO-DOO-DOO-DOO-DOO! Think it might have gone up to 4 times, but it's quite inventive. Well done to the lads who made it up

Needs to work on his positioning Not bad ratings, but I think Colo and Enrique's ratings are too high: 6.5 should do it. Together they had four serious errors that could have cost us the game, as you've already mentioned. And Best, why did he deserve a 8? The man was practically invisible for most part of the game. The body language was horrible and he didn't pay attention. He's able to do some pretty things sometimes, but he's lack of focus irritates me. Without that goal I'm pretty sure you would have slated him. I give him 6.5 too. The other ratings are spot on though
arnonel
nice to see the usual europe posts after a win I look forward to that now. Its amazing. When we lose, you see the relegation thread right at the top. When we win, you see an "optimistic" or europe thread at the top. Highs and Lows. Never anything in between. kirkwdavis2001
Just remembered about the guy stoodmin front of us in block 5, he was mortal pissed and couldn't stand up. He sat down for most of the first half with his head in his hands, occasionally jumping up forma sing. Didn't make it back form the second half, I bet his head hurts this morning! Guest
7th is more realistic than 17th imo and has been since we beat Everton. Waivered a bit in November/December but all in all we've been top 10 more than bottom.

Waivered a bit in November/December but all in all we've been top 10 more than bottom. Luckily Tiote is not suspended against Bolton, and that factor can be very decisive for the game. Against Everton we'll have more players back, so a yellow card on Tiote will not hurt us that much..I think..
toptoon
Our midfield in particular was superb and controlled the game. Defence pretty good too. Strikers did OK and got their goals, certainly better than Brums. Bentley looked dangerous at times and Zigic should have burried that header but our midfield Tiote and Jonas in particular were superb just hardly let them play. Harper 7 - Solid Simpson 7 - Good most of the time Coloccini 7 - Classy and composed Williamson 7 - solid Enrique 7.5 - Combined with Jonas very effectively and a real constant thorn in Birmingham's side. Barely gave them a chance defensively. Barton 7.5 - steely and great passer of the ball. Nolan 7 - gritty display led the side well. Tiote 8.5 - Awesome. Dictated/bossed the midfield and general play. The standout best quality player on the pitch. We'll do very well to hang on to him. Please do not sell him we always have a chance/foothold in the game with him centraly Gutierrez 8.5 - Excellent display, two top class assists for our goals (were you watching Ronaldo & co) and worked his arse off defensively too. Lovenkrands 7 - Worked hard and got his goal which he took very well. Didn't really do anything else of note. Best 7 - Also worked hard ish and got his goal. If he hadn't of scored he'd only deserve a 5 as his positioning and his making runs is woefull at times. What could we do with a fit livewire Ben Arfa and a new top quality striker up top? ExiledGeordie
Great away win, I was buzzing last night after my mate confirmed the score by text in the pub. Well done lads. We have the makings of a really good side here just a shame we're run by an absolute oaf of a man. We "could" really kick on in the summer with the right signings and cement our place in the prem league again, will it happen......
merlin
A great result in terrible playing conditions. The result more important than the performance, although this was Jonas' best contribution for a while - 2 assists for the goals and his second was a beauty. Good effort also from Best, he has been given a chance by Pardew and taken it - his goals may turn out to be crucial in keeping the side in the PL. Two wins should see the side safe and the sooner this happens the better because we are down to the bare bones and cannot take injuries/suspensions to key players. As has been said, with an ambitious owner the side could be transformed into Euro challengers next season - as it is, we don't even know if we will be able to do as well as this, but that is for another day. Well done to all concerned and I wonder how much input Carver is having,,,!

Flip
The thing with Mikey Ashley is that when everything is going well he tends to fuck off but it still betters the club. Every decision he has taken since after we were relegated have been good, despite Hughton leaving, Pardew has done a good job until now. People need to stop blaming him for everything and just hope that for once he won't fuck up. He's running this club as a business and we're on of few clubs who are debt-free now aren't we? Nar, we have monster debts, though we are in better position than most in that the debts are to Sheriff Fat Man, and unlike Lerner et al, he has so far not even charged any interest on them. Guest jimmyc84
Im still miffed as to how they are allowed to play PREMIERSHIP FOOTBALL with that f***ing cow field of a pitch. It realy is shocking how one of the top 20 sides in the country cannot maintain a patch of grass for half a f***ing season. similar to how when I often see the stadium of s**** on TV, there always appears to be plastic bags and other s*** floating around the pitch in an updraft. not to mention people.. Kevo
Excellent 3 points and another away clean sheet. Coloccini Williamson - Great partnership. Bar a few mistakes like all players make, they've done much better than I expected and it's ages since we had a decent CB partnership. They bossed Martins and Zigic for virtually all of that match. Joke if Saylor gets back into the team. Tiote - Was his usual self....amazing. By far the best defensive player I have watched at Newcastle so far. He dominated the midfield and picked up all of the loose balls. Jonas - First time in a while he's played very well. Set up two goals and hopefully he can keep up his form for a while. Ben Arfa, Ireland and Gosling coming back could help him perform. Best Lovenkrands - Worked well together and glad they both got a goal. Hopefully Lovenkrands only went off with a knock and he's fine for next Saturday. Those were the stand outs for me. I'm almost certain we will survive now. Might aswell push on and try for a top 10 finish NEVER EVER THOUGHT I'D SAY THAT AFTER JUST GETTING PROMOTED.
