May as well name this thread Mike Ashley IMO. He has a remit, he's doing what Ashley is asked of him in a ridiculous, flawed system.

Does the system dictate that when he spends money on a CB they have to be short and weak?

Thing is, we don't know how far down the list these were. Especially with a tight-fisted Ashley.

Having said that, almost all recent signings have been shocking and he deserves a chunk of the blame.

That's such an easy excuse.

It's true, though. As I say, he still deserves blame for having Thauvin, Cabella, Riviere etc on those lists to begin with.

Our players are decent technical players for the most part, completely unsuited to the English game. This, on top, of having a team full of players who are already shit and completely unsuited for top flight football has resulted in what we see today.

The irony is that the one player most suited is the first one out of the team sheet.

Still don't think the players we sign are that bad. We just need some stronger more solid players that Carr is probably not allowed to look at.

A player with some ability that is totally unsuited to the league is an equivalent of a clogger. Having a good first touch and passing range means nothing if you make Connor Wickham look like a 25 year old Fernando Torres

Amazing how many excuses ppl have this bloke.

I'm at pains to say it because it was a bullshit excuse that was trotted out for Pardew, but his hands are pretty tied IMO. You expect him to keep finding HBA/Cabaye/Ba level players year after year in this system? It's not possible.

Hasn't had a good transfer window since the Cabaye HBA (permanent) one.

Wijnaldum is good player, so is Mitro. Thing is our coaching is godawful

Mitro is a lazy git tbh.

They weren't in the same window and even if they were the Cisse, then Sissoko and Debuchy windows were just fine.

Didn't we sign HBA permanently in that summer?

Of all the players we signed in that Sissoko January - the only consistent performer for us warms the bench for Arsenal.

Carr's signed nearly all the players for this squad. Not a decent CM in the lot. Not a decent LB in the lot. Not a commanding CB in the lot. Not a proven PL goalscorer in the lot. About 6, #10's.

We signed him in previous January.

The January before.

Your remit, not the club's. Good players are sold on as well. IMO we had good foundations to build on at the start of 13/14 and only desperately needed a commanding center back at that point and then depth. 2 years later everyone that was decent (or at least superior to now) in that team has gone. Remy, Cabaye, HBA, Debuchy, Santon and yet we still have the same terrible central defense that needed to be changed even when the rest of the team was decent. McClaren came in and lauded Colo when he was clearly past it too.

I don't think Carr is free from blame by any means, but I certainly think he's the only one with a valid excuse.
