Nepharite
New ST Ben Arfur N'Zogbia? Nolan/Guti Barton/Gosling Tiote New LB Colo Taylor Simpson Krul
Tooj
I posted this in the N'Zogbia thread. A combination of playing every week, as well as the role Martinez has deployed him in, has meant that he's massively improved as a player since he's been at Wigan. I'd be happy for him to return, especially if, and it's a big if, we could buy a good quality striker, then you could play N'Zogbia and Ben Arfa behind the striker, which will give us plenty of pace, movement and guile. Then you could have Barton, Tiote and Nolan in a central trio, behind them. A poor man's Barca, if there ever was one. Although, I'd be disappointed if Taylor is one of our first choice central defenders next year. The same if Simpson is starting too.
Nepharite
Didn't see you post m8 it's a good one and confirms that great minds think alike. Taylor has had a couple of steady games, and I'm eternally hopeful that he manages get some consistency. Simpson is young and will learn to stop backing off eventually. Sturridge for me in the new striker role.
The Prophet
New ST Ben Arfur N'Zogbia? Nolan/Guti Barton/Gosling Tiote New LB Colo Taylor Simpson Krul Looks exiciting.
Nepharite
Means we can spunk quite a bit of the £35mil on a quality striker and other recruits. We have a good side there.
The Prophet
As I've said in other threads, it's the depth of the squad that worries me. I guess that comes with time and investment.
Guest MrSundlofer
Didn't Pardew say Ben Arfa will play as a central attacking midfielder next season? Anyway... I (want to) think we may play like this next season: http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/9103/nufcformation.jpg
Guest BlacknWhiteArmy
A 4-3-3 would work very well imo. Barton and Tiote picking the ball up from deep, Zoggy and Ben Arfa collecting and running at the defenders- Nolan arriving from deep. I can dream. David28
I'd like us to try something like that: Krul Simpson Williamson/NewCB Coloccini New LB Barton Tiote Ben Arfa Nolan Jonas New St Ben Arfa would be able to drift in and could score goals while Barton still could go on the wing at times and get his crosses in. Nolan would still have his goal scoring position and Jonas and Tiote can do what they did this season.
Guest BooBoo
Gotta a feeling the Pardy man will be looking beyond a bog standard 442 next season.
RupertCommunicator
I would fancy: Forster Simpson New CB Colo New LB Tiote Barton Jonas Barfa New CF New CF I reckon two big strong strikers would do the job. Having Barfa behind doing the pretty stuff (or Nolan as backup) would allow two big players to sit high up and bully goals out of teams. I also fancy that Barton and Jonas could play in a more narrow fashion, pulling in to help Barfa when required. It's not like we're spoilt for crossing ability, and Jose going will get rid of the Left Flank tactic. If we need to spread play, New LB and Simpson can push up since Tiote will sit back and provide cover.
traeir
Krul Simpson Samba Coloccini New LB Barton Tiote Zoggy Krancjar Ben Arfa Gameiro

Skeletor
Krul Simpson Samba Coloccini New LB Barton Tiote Zoggy Krancjar Ben Arfa Gameiro That would be some seriously sexy football. I'd say we have a minus percentage chance of signing Gameiro though!
Guest MrSundlofer
To play a 4-3-3 we must have the right players. José Enrique is likely to leave. Jonás Gutiérrez is looking for a move to a club in Italy? Replacements: Strongly linked left back Cheikh M'Bengue (just declared himself to play for Senegal) and January target Charles N'Zogbia. http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/532/nufc4411version2.jpg
Dave
Make more sense to swap Ben Arfa and N'Zogbia if that was to happen.
Rons
Isn't this Gameiro fellow a short guy in the Owen size? I think he will struggle up front alone
Guest MrSundlofer
Make more sense to swap Ben Arfa and N'Zogbia if that was to happen. Pardew: "Next season? Ben Arfa will play a central role in our attacking line. I want to use him as a playmaker, a number 10, just behind one forward." I also think Pardew see N'Zogbia more as a winger. TJM
Simpson would be a real weak point in a 4-3-3. I always feel you need your full backs to provide some attacking width in that formation.
joeyt
Not sure why the OP wants us to buy a long haired ex galactico

RupertCommunicator
Simpson would be a real weak point in a 4-3-3. I always feel you need your full backs to provide some attacking width in that formation. His crossing has been good at times though, and I feel he is still improving. I think he could develop into a class RB or RWB TBH.

I think he will struggle up front alone The 'small man will struggle up front his own' is such a myth, it really depends on the players supporting him and the general style of the team he is playing in. A mobile attacking "force" causes more problems than a static target man IMO. More exciting to watch too.
Ronaldo
The right side of that defence would get anihilated on a regular basis.
