Guest firetotheworks
Debatable really. Our results with him compared to without him when he was injured were canny big iirc.
BillClinton
Some of his quotes make it sound like Cabaye died unexpectedly while playing for us..
Guest firetotheworks
I think this has been asked before, so apologies, but where does he rank as an out and out midfielder over the years for everyone? For me it's Rob Lee then Cabaye and Speed battling it out for second, I change my mind often. Speed was in another league in terms of leadership, but without that it would comfortably be Cabaye for me.
SiLvOR
Speed edges it for me over Cabaye - Lee definitely number one.
HawK
Disagree he 's***s all over Herrera', you're judging him after what, 3 games for Manchester United. He's a fantastic player, it's only because he played for Bilbao that he wasn't picked by Del Bosque, a la Muniain.
sempuki
Rob Lee was way better imo.
Ketsbaia
If we're judging Cabaye by his final 2 or 3 months, he might be better than Herrera. But his inconsistent 2.5 years as a whole? No chance. Herrera is really good.

Big Geordie
Liverpool being linked with a move.
Guest thenorthumbrian
Liverpool being linked with a move. The sad truth is that Liverpool are a properly run club with ambition. The complete opposite to United. If you were a player with any idea of success either in Europe or here why the hell would you come to Newcastle ? Guest Howaythetoon
He's just behind Lee for me like, Cabaye has far more to his game than Speed as good as he was. He even has attributes Lee didn't have, I.e. vision etc. for me Cabaye is a top top top player.
Ronaldo
Speed was very good from 1998 to 2003 I'd say. I can't see Cabaye being as consistent over that period. Speed was good at pretty much everything, and you need a CM like that.
Hughesy
Think Speed might also be more appreciated in this era of football than he was then actually - could do everything and chip in with goals.
Ronaldo
Also, him and Dyer were a brilliant partnership in midfield. The best I've seen in our colours. They could both win the ball, play it and do damage in the final third.
Pata
Also, him and Dyer were a brilliant partnership in midfield. The best I've seen in our colours. They could both win the ball, play it and do damage in the final third. Both players would obviously improve us tenfold right now. When was the last time we had a CM capable of bringing the ball forward like Dyer used to? Edit. Actually we haven't had a player like that after Dyer. Hughesy
Don't want to get into this again - but I think Dyer is and was hideously overrated. Obviously would walk into our team now though.
Pata
I disagree, thought he was absolutely brilliant when fit (and arsed). Just hoped he could shoot better.
Ronaldo
I don't think Dyer was great but him and Speed were perfect together. They won midfield battles against some great teams, and when it mattered.
Kanj
Always loved when Dyer would go pick up the ball the deep and carry it forward. Funny how solid he was at CM. Wish the fucker would have scored more though always used to gasp or celebrate madly when he scored. Add to that his Southampton FA Cup away performance man. He looked unplayable. Flip
Always loved when Dyer would go pick up the ball the deep and carry it forward. Funny how solid he was at CM. Wish the f***er would have scored more though always used to gasp or celebrate madly when he scored. Add to that his Southampton FA Cup away performance man. He looked unplayable. Best performance I can remember from him. Did he score a brace or a hattrick that day?
Ronaldo
Brace. He never scored a hattrick for us.
Bellars
Christ. Going back and watching Kieran Dyer highlights How exciting some of those teams were. Polar opposite to today :'( :'( :'(
Ikon
Dyer did really well against Leeds (brace?) if i remember correctly? Didn't Solano play him through on goal with a great ball in that game as well? I've been too drunk too many times since then so im not sure
Guest
He could have been a helluva lot better but when you look back, even with his poor end product he brought so much to that team. His running and pace complimented the good end product of Shearer, Bellamy, Robert & Solano.
Guest neesy111
Dyer's best form for us came in his 1st season imo. I still don't know what his actual best position was.
